Hi, I'm Spencer Barnes, celebrity makeup artist. Today, I'm going to show you how to wear sparkly eye makeup. I'm here with my model, Catherine, and I've already done a look that's perfect for the day. A lot of women wonder if they can wear sparkly eye makeup in the day. Go ahead and close your eyes, Catherine. Notice this beautiful shimmery sheen that has a bit of sparkle right on the lid? It gives a great pop of light in the eye and it's perfectly suitable for the daytime. So now I'm going to show you how to take this daytime look and transition it into the night, using sparkly shadows that will help the eye pop, it will help it be more suitable for nights. Okay, so I'm going to use the Maybelline Eye Studio Color Explosion in Caffeine Rush. What I love about this palette is it's all neutral browns, kind of mocha, chocolate, caffeine colors and they have a beautiful sheen and then I'm really going to pop it with this pale, shimmery gold color that will help really pop the sparkle on top. To start out, I'm going to use a creamy soft espresso liner, just to give me a little bit of a creamy base to begin with. I'm going to smudge this right into Catherine's lash line and follow it all the way over to the inner corner of her eye. And this, by doing this, you give just something for the deep shadows to adhere to, and blend it upward and outward. Now that I've got Catherine's eyeliner all set, I'm going to come in with this dark color first. Some people like to work with the lighter colors, but I'm going to do the reverse and really start with the deepest shades. I'm going to smudge this color right into that creamy eyeliner pencil. By doing so, build a nice, deep, rich base. This will help give you a suitable color palette for a nighttime effect. Well, you'll notice I've chosen a neutral palette shade for Catherine. She's wearing a very bright colored top. People wonder, "can I wear bright colors, vibrant colors that have sparkle to pop?" Absolutely. The biggest key is to balance it with what you're wearing. Maybe if you're going to wear a bright color, you'll use something neutral or dark, just a neutral dark color, and your clothing, so your eyes can take the stage. I'm using the secondary dark color. It's a taupe-ier version, and a little lighter, just right on the lid. This gives you something to transition the color right up into the crease. Next I'm going to take this pale gold color and I'm going to use a smaller brush and blend it right under here eye line. I want her eye line to have a little bit of definition underneath as well, so I'll have you look up, Catherine, and I'll just come right under here with this kind of pale, golden color. It's not as light or shimmery as this lightest color, but is definitely, has a bit of a defining effect right under the eye. If you're using a colorful palette, this would be a great place to put a really vibrant shade. It's not a lot of it and it's tight to the lower line and it would really pop the eye color. I'm using a clean brush now. I'm going to use this very pale color that's not shimmery, right under the arch of her brow. Do the same thing over here, so I'm working with my light shades now and I'm going to use that same color I put under her eye, right in this inner third of the eye, just to give a little more definition there. Now to finish, we're going to use this very sparkly, pale gold color, right in the corners of her eyes, and you can use it anywhere really you want to have a little bit of sparkle and pop. I'm going to use my finger instead of a brush so that I can place it right where I want it. For Catherine's look, I'm going to focus and concentrate on the inner corner of her eye and transition it right onto her lid. Using sparkly eye shadows is a great way to make your eyes very expressive, and come alive, especially in dim light. Maybe if you're going to a dinner party or a club, it's a great way to really enhance your eyes. So we've completed the look on Catherine and it's really quite beautiful. You'll notice the sparkles and the neutral palette really compliment her hair and her eye color. Notice how beautiful the shading is and the way it lifts here eye and it compliments her hair? The eye color is really beautiful with her skin tones, and the sparkles really catch the light and give a nice pop of interest to the eye. This is a great technique to do if you feel like you're stuck in a rut and you're doing the same kind of look for day and night, this is a great way to spice up your look, whether you do neutral or a pop of color, it's going to be beautiful. Here are two final tips: if you're using a sparkly shadow or a dark shadow or a vibrant color, often you have what I call fall out, it settles down under the eyes, here's a one way you can start by prepping the lid with a nice eye shadow base. That'll give you something for the eye shadow to adhere to and secondly, I like to start the look without any makeup on so that you can finish with cleaning the under eye and using concealer, that way you can have a flawless look without all that extra eye shadow settling down below. And there you have it, that's how to wear sparkly eye makeup. I'm Spencer Barnes and thanks for watching.
