Hi, my name is Cati James. I'm a hairstylist, and today I'm going to show you how to get a semi-formal look for short hair. Today, the tools we're using, a comb, a lightweight water based pomade and a little bit of hairspray. So, the look we're going for today has a little bit of casual element to it but it's if you're going out to a nice dinner maybe. So what we're going to do in the beginning is take our comb and find a part and kind of just move it over to one side. It doesn't have to be too perfect and then we're going to take another part in the back. So push a little bit of it back here. So you've almost got two sections. You've got the front section and the back section. Then we're going to take our pomade, cover about two fingers worth, rub that in and then just rub it between your hands. So what we're going to do is make it a little bit funkier in the back so it's not too formal, add some spikes, maybe twist it up a little bit, give it some volume, some little fun, keep it nice and voluminous in the back. It's kind of funky and then with that little bit of pomade you have left on your fingers, just kind of give the front a little bit of texture and then what we're going to do is take our comb again and do the formal part of the hair. It's going to be a nice slicked back front so it looks very sophisticated but you've still got the fun in the back. So just so no flyaways come and you can keep your look all night because nobody wants to be redoing their hair. You take your hairspray and you do a couple spritzes and just use your fingers to put it into place. Maybe run it through with the comb one more time for a finishing touch and there you have it. Our most important tool for this was our lightweight pomade.
