Hi I'm Ashlie Johnson, celebrity manicurist, and today we're going to talk about what type of nail polish goes best with a red dress. Since there's so many different variations of red nail polish as you can see here, it really depends on what shade of a dress that you're wearing. Since Jennifer is wearing this beautiful burgundy shade, I think that it's best if we go with a red that's a little bit darker. It's in the same burgundy family and it's going to just add a little bit of a pop of color and not be too spot on the same red color as her dress. So today we're going to use Essie's Wicked. We've already prepped Jennifer's nails with a base coat so we can just move on to our color option now. With these darker shades, you have to be really precise in your application not to get too much on the cuticle or on the sides of the nail. The darker the color the harder it is to take away any little mistakes. Also make sure that you do a nice thin even coat so that it doesn't look streaky once it's on. The darker the color the less forgiving it is. So it's always best to make sure that you have a really fresh bottle of polish. If it started to get old and a little thick you might as well throw it out. Also don't forget, a swipe on the free edge to cover any exposed nail and seal it off. Now that our first coat of color is in place, we can go ahead and apply our second coat. As you can see in the bottle, it's so much darker than the first coat on the nail but with the second coat it's going to bring it up to that same shade in the bottle and just be careful not to get too much polish on your brush or then it can start to drip and run. So as you can see this is with our first coat and this is with our second coat. It's a dramatic difference. So if you want a color that's true to the bottle, make sure you do two coats. Now that our base and our two coats of color are on, we can go ahead and finish it all off with a top coat. This is going to make the color really brilliant and shiny and it's going to protect it from any chipping. Again just take a little bit on the edge of the brush along the free edge. This really seals all the layers together. It's also going to give your manicure a lot longer life. So now you can see with the shade that we chose how great it looks with Jennifer's dress. They're both in the same tone family but they're not too matchy matchy and there's a little contrast. They really compliment each other. That's what shade of nail polish goes well with a red dress. I'm Ashlie Johnson. Thanks for watching.
