Hi, my name is Cati James. I'm a hairstylist, and today I'm going to show you how to make a Mohawk with your short hair. The tools we're using today are a comb, gel and your hairspray to set. So basically we're going to start with getting the sides down smooth, just smooth everything along the sides and the back with your comb, keep everything flat because we want that contrast between flat and high. So then you're taking your comb again and going about around the crown of the head here on both sides. You're going to gather up the hair that you need to make your Mohawk, push that all forward. Okay so once your hair is separated into sections, we can start with the product. You're going to take some gel, take about a dime sized amount right in the middle of your palm and then just rub that through your hands and you're going to use that to slick these sides down in the back and then you can take a little bit more gel if you want, work that through again and work that through the middle section of your hair. So then we're taking our comb again and on both sides we're moving upward. You can hold that middle section with your hands. It's starting to look a little more like a Mohawk here and then with a little bit more gel, you go upward with your hands. So between your palms, you're working your hair up. You can have this as rigid or as loose as you want. You can have kind of a Faux hawky look if you want. I'm doing it a little bit more rigid and then if you pull any flyaway pieces, you can just smooth them down with your hands. Okay, and then probably one of the most important steps for this hairstyle is to set it so it stays up. You don't want a droopy Mohawk by five o'clock. So we're using a pretty generous portion of hairspray here, just make sure you get root to tip. We want everything standing up nicely. Okay, and we're all set. That's how you get your Mohawk. Our most important tool that we used for this was our hair gel.
