Hi, my name is Nikki, and I'm a hairstylist, and today I'm going to show you how to look hot with short hair. When you have short hair sometimes you feel like maybe you don't have a whole lot of options as to how to change up your look but I'm going to show you a fun and easy way to do something a little bit different on a day to day basis. Let's get started. Our first tool is a comb with both a wide and a fine tooth edge on it. Our second tool is our bobby pins. You want to match these pretty close to your hair color. Here I have ones that are bronze. Our next tool is an ouchless elastic. This is made out of polyurethane so it's not going to snag the hair. Our next tool is our styling paste. We're going to use this to texturize the hair and add some definition and then our last tool is our hairspray. We're going to use this to set the look and give it some hold. Our first step is going to be to take some of our hair putty and you want to take just a small amount. We don't want to put too much in the hair, just enough to give it some texture and definition, so about this much and then you're just going to twist some pieces just to start creating some texture in the hair. Work in a little volume, do the same through the back. I like a lot of volume in my hair so I'm really going to fluff it up around the crown and now we're going to move on to our next step. You're going to take your comb and you want to back comb the hair just a little right around the crown to give it some height and then our next step you're going to take your ouchless non-snag elastic and these are quite stretchy and I'm going to just kind of smooth the hair back over my ears just a little and I'm going to pull it into a little low ponytail, pretty close to the nape of the neck, right about there. I'm just going to wrap this elastic around it a few times until it feels secure. That feels good and I'm just going to kind of fluff the ends out a little bit, great. And now we can move on to our next step. You're going to take some bobby pins and I want this to look sort of messy and random, not too perfect. So, I'm just going to start by taking a few pieces back here and pinning our bobby pin in and as you're pinning these in you want to kind of go underneath the section that you're pinning so you don't see the bobby pin in the hair. So now, we're going to take our hairspray again and I'm just going to smooth my bangs down a bit here in the front and then work the hairspray in a bit, kind of twisting pieces as I go again so it just looks sort of, sort of loose and easy. I'm going to go around the back again spray a little bit over our ponytail, maybe a little through the top just to secure some of that hold. If you already have a curl or wave to your hair, this is a really super easy style to do. If you have straight hair, you can set it a little bit before you do this style to give it some more grip or you can just do it with straight hair. Total time to complete this look is going to be around 10 minutes. It's super easy so it shouldn't take too long. If it takes any longer than that, you're probably trying to make it a little too perfect so just remember you want it to be kind of messy. The important thing about this style is it should be easy but something a little bit different from the day to day look. So, the essential item for this is going to be your hair putty because that's going to help you to build some texture and messiness and definition within the hair and really just take the style up another notch.
