Hi, I'm Krista. I'm a beauty stylist in Tampa, Florida, and today I'm going to show you how to get your hair in relaxed waves. To do this, we're going to use our Marcel curling iron along with hairspray. Let's go ahead and get started. So, I've started off with air dried hair and as you can see it's a little frizzy. So what I'm going to do is go through and curl the pieces that are a little too frizzy. Now when you're curling you don't really need a rhyme or rhythm. If you're going for when I think relaxed waves, I think kind of a beachy style, beachy, relaxed hobo look. So with that being said I just kind of curl randomly throughout the hair and always start at the base with your curl because if you start down and curl up it's not going to be a consistent curl throughout whereas if you start at the base you have a consistent curl throughout because the heat touches every part of that hair. Now depending on how relaxed you want your curl to be, you can use different irons. This one is my go to iron because it just creates, I can kind of create a lot of different looks with this iron but they have two inch irons, one inch, one and a half. Generally you'll want to stick to your one and a half to two inch iron depending on how long your hair is. As you can see even though I'm pulling through I'm always curling up. So you always go back to the base just to get that nice curl formation. At the top I don't really want the curls to start right at the base so I'm going to bring it out about an inch, two inches before I start just because I want that relaxed look at the top. I don't want it to be so curly right at the base. So now I'm just going to kind of go through, kind of work my fingers through. I'm just going to pull on the curl. Another thing that you can do if you want it even more relaxed and you don't mind a little bit of frizz which I like texture, you can hold it, kind of work it up and work it up. You basically hold the ends tight there and then you kind of work back through with your fingers and see how that side really relaxed out, whereas this side is still tight? So we're going to do the same thing over here. I love this technique. It's like finger teasing. Then work your fingers through it. Now if you wanted to you could just kind of leave that tease in there but that's not the look that we're going for, so. And then at the end, since you've already sprayed it with hairspray you don't really need to spray it again unless you live in a humid climate, take it, a little bit of spray and you're good to go and that's how you create relaxed waves. Your number one tool here is your Marcel curling iron and of course your fingers for the finger tease. I'm Krista and I hope this helps.
