Hi, my name is Alysse Lemke, and I'm a professional hair stylist, and today I'm going to talk to you about how to style your hair with an iron after applying gel to your hair. The only things you'll need are gel and a smoothing iron. When I pick a gel I'm using a cream based gel that has conditioning agents in it that are going to provide subtle flexible memory to my style. Now for this I'm going to apply on dry hair using the cream gel. If you have any other gel in your hair, I would first brush through the hair so that the gel isn't quite so crispy or anything like that. This is a really soft hold gel. So about one and a half pumps and I disperse it all over my hands and I'm just going to run it through, kind of starting at the root. You don't want to focus too much on the ends. This is really for body and for style control when you use your flatiron. Alright I think I've got it through my hair. Now with the smoothing iron I'm going to create a little bit of a wave texture using both curls and kind of a push-pull method. And it's going to hold really well because we have the gel in our hair. So with the push-pull method I rotate and push away, back in and away. It gives you a nice little wave. We're just really going for texture with this look so it doesn't have to be perfect and here's a little half curl. Now through the top since I have short hair, I'm going to kind of play with it and pull it up, maybe do some curls through the front. If you have long hair, this will still work. You can do full curls with a curling iron. I like the more natural curl that you can get with a smoothing iron. Now remember you're using gel to add texture and body to your hair so when you're flatironing over the top it doesn't have to be perfect. You can create multiple textures by just twisting your flatiron, curls, waves, kinky texture and you won't even need hairspray because the gel is going to hold it in place for you all day.
