Hi, I'm stylist, Natalie Ogura. Let's talk about what to look for in a dress shirt for women. There are three main elements to consider for dress shirts, fabric, fit and style. When it comes to dress shirt fabrics, try to find a fabric with a little stretch built in. When you're at the office the last thing you want to feel is constricted and uncomfortable. Typically, the label should read a small percentage of spandex. As a bonus, look for dress shirts that are non-iron. If you can do away with ironing boards and dry cleaning bills, woohoo. Now let's talk fit, I'm a fan of tailored dress shirts. They maintain their structure all day and they are tastefully fitted at the bust, waist and hip emphasizing an overall feminine form. Also look for straight collars that are slightly firm to the touch. Now the last element to consider is style. Shirts with a slight sheen or satined finish, look the sharpest. White or blue are definitely the go to colors for the office but do not shy away from colors like mauve, green or pink. Try to look for shirts that are hip length. This will give you the option to tuck the shirt in or to wear it tucked out and cinched in at the waist with a skinny belt. Our model, Ellie here, is wearing one of my favorite dress shirts and it's from Banana Republic. It's paired with a black full skirt, sequined belt, also from Banana Republic. To finish the look, a necklace by Marianne Homsy works on Ellie for work or play.
