Hi, I'm Seane Marie, and I'm a fashion stylist. Indie style is normally what we refer to as alternative or against the grain. In fact, the word Indie is derived from independent. This means when trying to emulate Indie style it's hard to copy someone exactly as that wouldn't be, well, independent. What Indie fashion maidens are best at is discovering what style they really love to wear whether it's the 70s inspired wide legged denim, acid hues from the 80s or the minimalist trend of the 90s, start with what really speaks to you and draw inspiration from that. Today, Emma is wearing a floral patterned dress by See Thru Soul. The muted colors and delicate lace detail give this piece a vintage flower child feel. Remember, though you don't want to look head to toe like you just walked out of your grandmother's closet. Instead, choose current cuts like this dress that are reminiscent of the past but relevant in the present. I then added a vintage denim vest which picks up the blue flowers in the dress and adds an extra touch of style. Now a great way to add your own personal flare from here is with accessories. I've piled on a stack of bracelets by Liz James in a range of colors to Emma's look. Because the bracelets are all similar in style, piling a ton of them on works. But this is the part where you have your freedom. If you like, for example, silver rings, try wearing a few of them at a time. Or if you've inherited your grandfather's watch, you can add that to your look too. Personalized accessories are a great way to express your style and embody the Indie spirit. Finally, I polished the look off with a very of the moment pair of 70s inspired platforms but boots or moccasin flats would work here too. Overall, remember to balance the vintage with current pieces and add a touch of style that is all your own. This is the key to creating your own independent style.
