What Type of Woman Are You?

blog post photo– By Tyra

I have used it countless times, so it’s no surprise that many people associate me with the word "FIERCE." Sometimes I am that type of woman, but sometimes I am not.  Don't get me wrong -- nothing feels better than being a fierce woman.  My favorite type of woman (and man for that matter) is someone who is courageous and kind, passionate and loyal, energetic and confident.

I am entering into a new phase of my professional career and I hope to be FIERCE and FABULOUS at it. But it is all new territory -- exciting and scary.  I am going to Harvard Business School, writing a fictional novel called Modelland about a young girl who has to navigate through a model fantasy world where she encounters good and bad along the way. Plus, I am launching a website called typeF!

All of these projects are different “types.”

HBS is about improving my business skills. My classmates and I are sharing the great experience of education and are learning so much about strategy, marketing, finance, control, innovation and global markets. And, the sweetest part? Meeting new amazing, lifelong friends. My book Modelland is allowing me to express my mission to expand the definition of beauty in a personal and creative way.  The website, in partnership with Demand Media, is about listening to what women want and giving them exactly that. No matter what type, I want to break down stereotypes and help women find their best "type," as they define it.

Listening to and studying consumers has given me a great appreciation for what problems women are looking to solve. The online fashion and beauty space is fragmented, mostly because there are so many types of women. We at typeF.com will be able to give them tailored answers by using Facebook as the personalization platform. My intention is to create a site, and a movement, for and based on all types of women

Like many pioneering women before me, including Arianna Huffington, I believe I have both a responsibility and the opportunity to give women a new view of themselves. For a long time, the fashion world defined my "type."  I want to define what type of woman I am. I don't want a few editors to dictate my style; I want it to be more personal. Making things more personal always makes them more powerful.

In the modeling business, I definitely was a type.  That’s how the business works (I am happy that my type just happened to be one with curves where most had none!). But now, I strive to break my stereotype, everyday.  I hope I can empower women to break theirs. When anyone tells you what "type" of person they think you are, it is personal.  Let's decide our own type no matter how fierce, fabulous, fun or feisty it may be.

My type is limitless.

My type is typeF.com.
