New Year, New Ways to Give Back

Girl, I'm sure, if you're like me, you probably have a list of stuff you wanna accomplish this year. But admit it. Sometimes we go a little cuh-razy with this though, right? Tryin’ to lose weight, get all A's in school, become the BOSS at work, create the next Facebook, start your own clothing line, publish that book you've been dreamin’ about… oh, and don’t forget takin’ care of your home life, too! And let me guess. You’re giving yourself four months to get it all done, aren’t you!?

Now I’m definitely not mad at ambition. Love how my fam is so ambitious! But in between conquering the world while starting that fresh and fierce new company, why don’t we all take a second to think about what we can do to better the life (or at least the day!) of someone else.

Y’all know I love for my girls (and guys) to feel fierce inside and out – in fact I built my whole company to help you be the best you, to give you the power to reach all those goals! And one way you can become the fiercest you is to be selfless. It’s the little things like helpin’ your mom, takin’ out the trash for your grandparents, or walkin’ the dog of someone who’s sick.

I bet you don’t even have to go that far out of your way to find someone in need. Look around you! Your neighbor, your school, someone in your own fam—there are people everywhere who could use some help. We all got somethin’ to share with someone!

Maybe you can tutor the kid in a younger grade, offer to baby sit for your neighbor, shop or help out with chores for an elderly person in your neighborhood who doesn’t get out much, volunteer at a nearby community garden and help pretty up the place…the possibilities are endless! One of my fave New Year rituals is to get up and clear out that closet. Go look in yours right now! There’s gotta be more than a few pieces you haven’t worn in a couple months, or even years! Try donating your old clothes. You’re givin’ them to someone in need and makin’ room for next year’s fashions. But don’t throw away that little black dress! That never gets old ;)

Yes, it's always good to wanna better yourself. Nothin’ wrong with that. But giving back is one of the best ways to enrich your own life. Whether you think what you’re doin’ is big or small, it can mean the world to the person you’re helping.
