February 2010: From Me to You

From Me To You...
February is all about love, right? Valentine’s Day, the color red, hearts, flowers; it’s got it all.  I’m not the biggest fan of V-day… I don’t like chocolate.  I do like white chocolate though! (Get those racial jokes outta your head; you know I’m really just talkin’ about chocolate.)  But let’s talk about the love you feel for your friends, your lover, your new make-up, and hottest jeggings.  And what about hate? You know, when you just can’t stand how your lover combs their hair or sips their soup, but ya still love them.  And of course, let’s not forget the haters.  All those times when someone walks in the room and you get that little feeling in your stomach, like knowing that they’ve got something good. Wishing you could have something they do, or wear your hair like they do or have those hot heels they got… let’s recognize that.  That’s why we have the Love, Hate and Haters Issue.
In the career path I chose, you really have to have a thick skin. Anytime I put myself out there, even when I try not to, it’s like my life is under a huge magnifying glass.   I go out to do a little shopping around NYC by myself – ya know, throw on some jeans, sneakers, a sweatshirt and Gucci fanny pack (skipped the shower but did brush my teeth) - and all of a sudden, I’m being chased by paparazzi with huge cameras wondering what I’m doing!  Then my family and friends read about it in the papers: how I’m lookin’ all crazy, what was I thinking, etc. What? I’m single-handedly bringing back the fanny pack! HOLLA! It’s a girl’s dream to be hands free, right? Haha Well, I know ya’ll run out of your house once in a while wearin’ something crazy too. Come on. Well, it comes with the territory, but like I said, you need a thick skin or you’ll never survive.  You have to learn to love it, deal with it and know when to ignore them.  You can’t listen to the haters and lose your self worth.  They are hatin’ because you’ve got something good.  You’re looking gorgeous, or you have something they’d like.  Let’s admit that this can get the best of all of us and we gotta stop and realize that it’s just jealousy.  So take all that love (like the love the haters are secretly giving us) and spread it out to even the things you hate, the things you hate on, and then tell them haters to kiss your big, fat, fit, dimply, wide, flat, bootylicious ass!
