Cycle 13 Episode 8 The 411
The 411

This week’s episode is all about learning how to be a spokesmodel because in this business the more marketable skills you have the easier it is to find work.
The girls arrive at CBS Studios and meet up with Lara Spencer, the host of the The Insider, and comedian, Ant. Lara talks about how important it is to be able to think on your feet when you are interviewing someone. She explains that the girls will be learning the fundamentals of how to be a correspondent, and for practice will interview Ant, who will trip them up by pretending to be a difficult celebrity.
After trying out their skills with Ant, the girls go to the set of The Insider, where they meet up with Ann Shoket, editor-in-chief of Seventeen Magazine. Ann tells the girls that for their challenge they will be interviewing actress Jessica Lowndes from 90210. They will each be given a fact sheet and will be reading questions for her from the Teleprompter. They have two minutes to fill without stopping and the girl who does the best job will get to be in a beauty story in Seventeen Magazine.
The girls realize that two minutes is longer than it sounds and even longer when the Teleprompter unexpectedly goes blank. Some of the girls have an easier time than others keeping their cool but it’s Erin who wins the challenge. She is allowed to choose two friends to join her for the Holiday Beauty Blowout shoot for Seventeen and she picks Jennifer and Rae.
Back at the house, the girls are surprised when gift boxes arrive at their doorstep. A card tells them that tomorrow they will be filming their first Cover Girl commercials and that the gifts are actually filled with tools to help them since they will be writing their own 25-second scripts. Inside they find Exact Eyelights eye makeup, a pad of paper, a pen and a stopwatch. Everyone works hard on their commercials and tries to get a good night’s sleep for the day ahead.
When the girls show up for their shoot they are met by Jay Manuel and Cycle 12 winner Teyona. After a few encouraging words from Teyona, Jay tells the girls that he will pulling them out of hair and makeup to go over their dialogue but that he won’t be directing them, Nigel will. One by one they shoot their commercials and after an exhausting day prepare for the next day’s panel.
The guest judge this week is Kim Kardashian, who has her own reality show and is co-owner of Dash Boutiques. After watching the girls’ commercials, the panel decides that Jennifer had the best commercial and they put Rae and Erin in the bottom two. Rae is sent home because the judges feel she did not stand out and needs to be more than just a pretty face.
