Making the Cut

Cut-out splices in a gown reinvent an old silhouette. Rooney Mara ("The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo") is already making red carpet statements wearing the cut-out trend, and this year it would be great to see Kate Winslet ("Carnage") and Viola Davis ("The Help") take the trend for a test drive. Designers Prabal Gurung, Nina Ricci and Zac Posen have all embraced the new deconstructed look for pre-Fall 2012.
