In the typeF Survival Guide series, we look at different scenarios that you may encounter and provide you with solutions to face these challenging fashion and beauty situations. Hi, I'm fashion stylist and typeF expert, Lilliana Vazquez. So you've picked out a great outfit but now it's time to start thinking about the perfect hairstyle that compliments your look whether you're looking for a style that's bold, sleek or sexy, just follow these tips and achieve a stunning look that helps you stand out but not overshadow the bride. In this episode we'll show you how to create a stylish hairdo for any type of hair. Here's what you'll need, bobby pins, volume enhancing shampoo, volumizing mousse, a blow dryer, a flatiron, hairspray, anti frizz or shine serum and a good round brush. When choosing any style for a special occasion like a wedding, decide whether you want a loose style for a more casual event or something more structured for a formal look. Also consider the season, chances are that the wedding you attend will be in the warmer months but upswept hair may be too chilly for a Winter wedding. It's also essential to select a style based on the hair length and face shape. If you're unsure of your face shape, no problem, just go to typeF.com and click on the "Just for You Module" to discover which shape you have. The right style can accent your facial features and compliment your outfit. So let's look at some simple styles that will be sure to make heads turn. For long thick hair, straight or curly, a half updo is one of the better wedding hair choices. Wash your hair with a highlight enhancing shampoo, work a bit of volumizing mousse through your roots to get a little extra lift and blow your hair dry on medium heat. Use a flat iron for a sleek half updo or a curling iron for a wavier do. Apply an anti frizz serum from roots to ends. Make a center part and pull hair loosely back from both sides and fasten with a tiny barrette or bobby pins. This way you'll have that tousled loose effect but your hair will stay where you pinned it. Set the look with a hairspray to tame flyaways. For straight fine hair, spray with a volumizer at the roots and dry the front sections with a good round brush pulling hair up and back to create a nice shape. The key to wedding styles for shorter hair is to bring out a chic look and updos aren't just for long hair only. Here are some fabulously trendy updo tips for short to medium length hair. For a sleep updo, blow dry hair as usual. Tease the under layer of hair with a brush or a comb where the updo will be secure. This will help build volume so you can secure the updo properly. Slightly twist and pull back three inch sections of your hair towards the area that you teased. Bobby pin each section to the teased area at the back of your head. Gently pull up some face framing layers and give them shape with a flatiron and set the entire look with hairspray. For straight short hair there are still some great style options such as sleep waves. Use a curling iron to curl hair, then run fingers through the hair for a wavy look. Set with a finishing spray but keep it simple. You don't want to compete with the bride. For short, curly hair, always start with a smoothing product to prevent frizz. Tease the upper sections of the hair to add volume to the crown if you need it or use a gel or a mousse to tone down the volume if you need to. Pin one side back with a barrette or a pin. Fast dry non-aerosol hairsprays are ideal for manageability. They secure your style and help your elegant locks stay in place and will last beautifully for the duration of the wedding celebration. Remember the bride is the center of attention but that doesn't mean you can't look and feel fantastic for this special occasion too. Follow our tips, look great and dance the night away.
