In the TypeF Survival Guide Series, we look at different scenarios that you may encounter and provide you with solutions to face these challenging fashion and beauty situations. Hi I'm fashion stylist and TypeF expert, Lilliana Vazquez. So you're going camping, but what do you bring in your makeup bag is your big question. Here's what you'll need, tinted moisturizer or mineral makeup, blotting papers, an eyelash curler and lip gloss. Let's face it, you're going to sweat out there so plan on minimizing your makeup look and routine. The biggest issue while camping is water. There's a pretty good chance there isn't going to be a surplus of H2O for you to enjoy a long relaxing shower so you need to be prepared. An easy solution is unscented baby wipes or makeup remover wipes. They're great for freshening up. Just make sure they're unscented so they don't attract bugs. They're also compact and can easily fit into any part of your backpack. Just remember to keep the wipes away from your eyes because red irritated eyes can quickly kill your look. Since you're surrounded by nature you should try and go as natural as possible. A simple tinted moisturizer or a face cream with SPF or even a mineral foundation is really as heavy as you should go. Levels of SPF needed vary for your type of skin. The more fair your skin is, the more you need but we're also talking about protecting your face. So a face moisturizer with at least SPF 20 is a good rule of thumb. You should also consider your skin type. If you have oily skin, go with an oil free moisturizer. However, with regular or dry skin, oils are essential to staying moisturized. Don't forget to consider the season as well. We need way more moisturizer in the Winter and less in the hot Summer heat. Next you need to choose a shade of tinted moisturizer that compliments your skin tone. Whether you have porcelain skin or olive skin, make sure the tinted moisturizer is the same exact shade as your skin. To apply tinted moisturizer, dot small amounts of the cream on the red spots or uneven areas of your skin. Moving from the inside of your face outward, blend the moisturizer into your skin making sure to blend on the hairline and jawline to achieve the most even look possible. Remember, to use tinted moisturizer sparingly, or, if you can go without any color at all, just an unscented face cream with SPF can be a great solution. For slightly more coverage with a natural look and feel, a great option is to use a mineral foundation to add tone and SPF to your face. First, find the proper color that compliments your unique skin tone. Wash your face thoroughly and then with a makeup brush, apply small amounts of mineral foundation powder. Make sure to use small circles and light pressure to create an even and uniform tone across your face. Being active while wearing a lot of moisturizer can clog your pores and make you shiny. So pack oil blotting sheets in your makeup bag. They help absorb shine on a long hike without smearing or smudging your makeup. And in an emergency, it may sound gross but toilet seat covers can also work as blotting sheets but remember the golden rule, blot gently, don't wipe. I would also bring a cream blush that can work on your cheeks and lips. When it comes to eyes, keep it simple. An eyelash curler is really all you need, it's an easy trick to make your lashes appear longer and it will last all day. The fresh air, great vibe and fun are going to do most of the work at making your eyes stand out. Now for your lips, stick with a clear lip gloss for a sexy shine or a good lip balm to keep them moisturized and feeling great. And ladies, always remember the SPF. The sun is probably shining on your trip and we don't want to dry out our lips with too much sun. It's also not a bad idea to go with unscented deodorant as well. Bugs are attracted to fragrances so the less you smell, the less bugs know you're there. So there you have it, a few makeup tips to survive your camping adventure. The outdoors, the fresh air and being active make us all look and feel good. Add in the vibrant setting, some minor details and great company and you really are going to enjoy yourself out in the woods. So remember, go natural and let your inner beauty come through.
