Hi, I'm Jennifer Chan for Typef.com and welcome to this edition of Style on the Street, New York. Today we're in the East Village also known as the birthplace of punk rock so it's no surprise this edgy area has a distinct rock and roll vibe. Needless to say the East Village attracts plenty of creative young people and cool NYU students with hip downtown style. We spotted this woman's gorgeous green dress a mile away and had to know more about her. What's your name? Julie Wilson. And where do you live? I live in Harlem, New York. And describe your personal style. My personal style, I feel like it would be whatever I feel like in the morning. I'm very versatile, whether I feel like color or I want to wear something black or if I want to wear something short or long it's all about how I feel when I wake up in the morning. Amazing, well I love you and this color. Walk me through your outfit, head to toe, where did you get everything from? Okay, this is from Wendy Mink. I love her to death. It has a great weight, I love a statement piece. My dress is from Marie Marie and they're no longer in business but I love them. It's a great dress. I can belt it. I can wear a cardigan over it. I can put a little leather jacket over it. It's really great. I wear it with boots sometimes but then my shoes are from J. Crew, so. Yeah, we love J. Crew. And what about your bracelets? Oh my bracelets are Gas Bijoux and it's a company based out of San Tropez and I love them. I just stack them and whenever there's a special occasion I get one. They're beautiful. Now tell me your favorite trick for flattering your figure. I think I really like my curves so I tend to wear things that show them off. Sometimes people are scared of their curves but I really like them so I wear, you know, not completely tight outfits but I like to like cinch my waist. I like to wear you know, different proportions, a voluminous skirt with a tighter top or something like a pencil skirt with a more blouson top. So I think it's about playing with proportions and knowing what you really like about your body and working with it. So you really like to experiment with fashion. I do, I do, that's the best part of fashion. I mean that's why I kind of don't have a signature style because one day I want to look like a hipster, one day I want to look like a lady who lunches. Like I think it's just fun to be able to wear clothes and for the clothes to express the different ways that you're feeling. Now what are you obsessed with for Fall? I'm obsessed with this Fall, color and I know we talked a little bit about that but I feel like we can get really stuck in that like black, wearing black and grays and those are great and they're awesome palettes, but wear something more colorful like a green dress, you know, a colorful necklace, a great you know, shoe, colorful shoe. I think it really brightens up your whole look and it just like, screams fun. Now do you have a secret style tip you can share with us? I think my secret style tip would actually be wearing a really good bra and really great underwear. I think once you feel good underneath your clothes, it kind of exudes outwardly and you want to look good underneath so that you know, you need a good foundation. So if you have a good bra, one that fits well, a cute pair of panties, then you obviously feel good once you put the clothes on. Well it sounds like you're a savvy fashionista. Tell me what your favorite piece is in your closet. My favorite piece, I'm going to go classic with this one, I feel like is a little black dress. I have this little black dress from Tracy Reese who is one of my favorite designers and I literally wear it all the time and it's great because it's not really rememberable like it's a beautiful dress but you can like dress it up with a piece of jewelry or shoes and you can change it. So it doesn't look like you're wearing the same dress all the time but by putting on a hat or putting on a colorful, you know, armful of bracelets, it looks different. That's what every woman needs. Now describe your style in three words. Oh my gosh, I think it's just how I feel, like that simple little phrase is just, I just wake up in the morning and I just feel a certain way and I go with it. I just go and it's so much fun. Like you said fashion is just an amazing way to be creative and express yourself and however I'm feeling, that's the way I go. Thanks so much for joining me with this edition of Style on the Street, New York. Be sure to check back for more seasons and more cities on Typef.com.
