- Celebrity Hairstylist David Dang here showing you how you can do an emo or hipster look. What I'm going to show you today is how to create a disconnected bun. So, what we're going to be using are clips, hairpins, comb and gel. We're going to be using L'Oreal Paris Studio Line Mega Gel. Okay, as you see, we've already pre-set her hair. I put her hair to ponytail to the side and I've pre-curled it just a little bit with an inch barrel. I've also given her a little bit of bang that I'll use later and you'll see why. What we're going to be doing is we're going to wrap this a little bit which is also mean a tease or back-comb and we're going to back-comb it as much as we can to create volume. And so, how am I going to do that is I'm going to use a hairspray. So, I'm going to start with back-combing; you're going to use, you're going to hold the hair taut, back-comb as much as you can just to create volume. Once again, hold the hair taut, back-comb, back-comb until you lose all your base. Voila! Now, do that all over your ponytail. Okay. So, as you see, we've teased until it stood up. So, it's really big, that's what we want it. Okay? So, we're going to smooth it out a little bit with your hands. So, once we get this, we're going to go ahead and turn it and then, put it against your head, like that. Now, use your Bobby pin to secure the base. Now, we have a bang left and the reason why I put this bang here is because I want to give it more of a, you know, a dramatic look. I've put a pre-curl in there just for volume. You don't have to do that; you can just leave a bang, no bang at all, but usually this look has that more drama, that darker side to it. So, I put the, the bang in here to give Lauren a great like dramatic look. So now, I'm going to go ahead and piece that bang out with the gel. The gel looks very well because it's very light. The lighter the better, but you just want, you want to do that pieceness in there. Again, it doesn't have to be perfect, you just kind of go over the face everywhere and you just use hairspray to perfect the technique or you can use some gel on top of the crown area. Take a little bit more gel, get those little baby fine hairs down. And there you have it. And there you go, a beautiful emo hipster look. I'm David Dang, Celebrity Hairstylist; we'll catch you here next time.
