- Hi, I'm Jenny Balding, professional hair stylist. Today I'm going to show you a contemporary way to wear your hair up. So when my clients ask me for an up-do, the don't necessarily want a traditional up-do. A very modern and contemporary way to do this would be to sweep her off to one side. A very old Hollywood glamor kind of look. To create this look I'm going to use a band, a brush, large hair pins and a finishing spray. The spray I'm going to use today is Fashion Work 12 by Redken. So Amanda's hair I've already created some volume and some wave through the hair, but you definitely do this with straight hair also this look. I just think when you really want to pump up for an event, if you put some waves in it, it gives it some old Hollywood glamor, especially when it's off to one side. So just start by just misting light spray, 'cause you just want to give it some hold, but you definitely don't want the hair to be stiff. Okay, so to create this look, it's really actually quite simple. But it's just knowing how to actually take the hair and place it correctly. So I would just sweep the hair over from one side. Leave out the section in front of the ear. And what I'm going to do is just tie a very small low pony tail right underneath her ear, right in tight through there. So just be careful when you are tying, just to tie it loosely. You don't need to tie it really tight. You just need it to give it some grip and some security. Once you have it in the pony tail, a little trick is the two sections underneath either side of the tail, just pull slightly and it's just going to bump up that volume right in that crown area, as you can see as I'm doing that. This way it's going to hold it and give you the lift that you need right there at the back. With your section at the front, now what you can do is just very lightly, you don't want to twist it around, you just want to place it lightly. This is where having a wave comes in handy, because you can just follow the wave around, and sweep it over the pony tail. Take your pin, pop it in, and reverse, and come 'round and pop it into the pony tail, and that will really secure it. Then you can just sweep 'round anything else you need to bring 'round through here. You might want to leave it looser, or you might want to make it tighter. It's completely up to you. Look at your face shape, see what's going to suit you. And I'm just finishing with the light spray, just to give it some extra hold. It's a really good idea to use a light spray so you can build on it, so you're no going to get it sticky. Okay, this look, as you can see, is just perfect for long hair, and especially if you want to wear it up, but you don't want to take all off your face, and you really want to showcase your beautiful hair. Now if I just turn you to the side, when you have some of the shorter layers, you can let them bounce off. You can see, all it is is just a low pony tail which will keep it really secure all night, and you're not worried that it's going to come around back the other side. Use that section in front, lightly pin, and it's as easy as that. It's just knowing to secure that right there. And there you go, that's how you wear long hair up. I'm Jenny Balding, and thank you for watching.
