Hi, I'm Louis Santalices, celebrity hairstylist, and today I'm going to be showing you how to create that water wave effect on your hair using a curling iron. So the water wave is a beautiful, soft look. It's also known as the body wave. It's very old Hollywood, vintage-y kind of feel to it. To get this look, you're going to need some clips, a flat brush, a half inch or an inch curling iron - depending on the length of your hair, and some product. And to complete the look, I'm going to use this Overworked Hair Putty by L'Oreal, just to hold that uniform look. Okay, so to begin the look I am going to section from the top of the crown behind the head to behind the ear. And then I'm just going to take horizontal sections right above the ear. I'm going to clip the rest of that away. To create this look, it's really important, to create a wave and not a curl, to manipulate the hair around the barrel without twisting. If you twist as the hair is wrapping around the barrel, you won't get that effect. And you just need to hold it there for a moment. Let that out. I like just to kind of tug on it so it doesn't curl up on me, and then just brush it out. And as we take more sections, it'll go into that section. So I'm just going to continue up the head, and - again - not wrapping and twisting, but wrapping and making sure that it's all laying in the same direction. So again, taking this section, the horizontal section, wrapping it around. And then just pulling that out. Okay, so I finished the curl and then brushed it all through, and you can see there's a really nice pattern on each side. And so what I want to do, just to make it more chic, more sleek, I am going to take some product and I'm just going to run that through. And so what this is going to do is control any fly-aways and just make it all kind of all-together. You don't have to worry about pulling out the curl too much, because it's in there. So just look at that wave. It's nice, it's beautiful, it's uniform. Lots of shine, lots of bounce. And that's how you get a water wave look using curling iron. I'm Louis Santalices, and thank you for watching.
