Hi. I'm Jeffrey Paul, celebrity makeup artist. And today, I'm going to show you how to use makeup to hide scars. Scars and blemishes make us feel less than perfect. The best thing to do is to hide them or conceal them with a cover stick. Today, I'll be using Maybelline Cover Stick. To start off, what you want to do with a cover stick or any kind of concealer is to make sure that it matches the skin tone. It can be a slightly bit lighter but not darker, under the eyes especially and around the face. You can see this is a good color for Kate's skin. Add a little bit maybe on the chin or on the neck, and see if it blends in without touching it. if it does, you know it's a good match. With scars, what you may want to do first is maybe add a little bit of powder. Right here, Kate has a little bit of a blemish. Blemishes and scars have a different quality to the skin where it's tighter, it's firmer and there's less pores because of what's happened to the skin, especially a scar. So, what I like to do, is set a little bit of powder first to the area. What that will do is take off any kind of moisture or shine and create a better barrier for the concealer or cover stick to go on. With cover stick, you can actually apply it directly to the blemish or scar or even under eye circles. You want to apply it in a dotting manner. You don't want to wipe too much because the skin is slicker, because it has a tightness, you don't want to move the product too much off of what you're trying to conceal. So, actually dot it to the area you need. You can use a stick or you can use a brush. Either way, you want to pat it on and warm it up with your fingers just to smooth it out. Concealers will actually hide the scar. But because that they're thicker, they're actually going to make it look more raised, more prominent. So you don't want to add too much product and you want to make sure it's blended. The best thing to do is add it right on top of where the blemish or scar is, and then smooth out the areas around it so that it's a gradual color, and not just one blob of color, because then it will actually look bigger. If you were doing it under the eyes, you'd dot a little bit under on the cheekbone, and right where it's dark, pat it to blend it in. You don't want to pull too much around the eye. If there were blemishes or scars near the nose, same thing. Dot it, either with a brush you can blend it or your fingertip. You don't want to wipe too much because then that actually pulls the product and wipes it away from the skin. Around the lips is always another area where there might be some blemishes or the little scars. What I like to do is just take some concealer, just blend it around the whole area so it's a light transparent coating, and just add a little bit extra right on top of where I need it. To finish it off, I'm taking a large powder brush and just lightly patting some powder on top. That way it will set the concealer and cover stick and also set any kind of foundation. Concealer can be used under foundation or over foundation. Either way, it'll cover a blemish and hide a scar. There you have it. And that's how you hide scars with makeup. I'm Jeffrey Paul. Thank you for watching.
