- Hi there, I'm Skincare Expert Tracy O'Connor. And today, I'm going to show you how to unclog pores. Okay, now, why do we want to unclog our pores. Well, first of all, when our pores are clogged, our pores appear larger. Also, when the oils trapped inside the pore, there's a proliferation of bacteria and that clogged pore feeds the bacteria and then, that oftentimes causes breakouts; blackheads, unwanted pimples, all kinds of things that we don't want. Now, if you want to unclog your pores, you have to do three things. Choose a product that firstly, breaks down the material and the oil that's inside the pore. Secondly, it sweeps away the dead skin cells that are clogging that pore and trapping the bacteria. And finally, we want a product that's going to balance the skin and also deliver a more even production of oil as oppose to excess oil production. On Kristine, I'm going to use a product that does all of these things. We're going to use the Normaderm Daily Exfoliating Cleansing Gel by Vichy. And this product is so easy to use, you can use it day and night; it's very gentle and not only it breaks down the material that's in the pore, but it also smooths the skin and prevents future breakouts. I'm just going to wet and dampen Kristine's skin so we can start using the product. And I love to an exfoliant in the shower because the moisture and the steam from the shower will help to soften the dead skin cells and so it would be easier to remove them. Okay, so you just need a little bit and you can see the little green round particles, those are smoothing micro-particles and those are going to slough the dead skin cells off the surface of your skin. You want to just gently, gently massage the product into the skin. Whenever looking for an exfoliant that has beads, you want to find beads that are like this, that are round. You never want to select an exfoliant that has crushed nuts or anything that might have a jagged edge as opposed to a round spherical bead. A jagged edge like a nut can create micro lacerations in the skin which can render the skin more vulnerable to infection or any kind of external factors. So, the micro-particles work with the other ingredients, the glycolic acid and the salicylic acid. Those acids go deep into the pore, break apart the debris, help to clear out the material and then, the microbeads sweep it away off the surface of your skin and at the same time, they also sweep away the dead skin cells that lay on the surface and trap the bacteria inside the pore. You want to leave the product on in the shower just a couple of minutes and then you can go ahead and wash off. And this is a daily exfoliant, so it's gentle enough to use everyday and it's formulated with glycerin so that acts as a buffer. You have the glycerin which is an emollient and then you have the acids which smooth and soften the skin. Looking at Kristine's skin, I can feel that it's already smoother to the touch and that's a sign that the exfoliant is working. Okay, so once you've achieved this clean clear pores, it's important to remember to choose products that won't clog the pores in the future. So, look for oil-free products such as moisturizers and oil-free makeup. And there you go, that's how to unclog pores. I'm Tracy O'Connor, thanks for watching.
