Hi I'm Caile Noble, celebrity hairstylist and today we're going to show you how to get a tight curl using a curling iron. When using a curling iron to achieve a tight curl, you're going to need to use a product so that the hair has memory and the curl holds. Today we're going to be using the Garnier Fructis Curl Construct Mousse. So you don't want to apply the mousse on dry hair, it has to be wet. Get the excess moisture out of the hair, not by roughing up the cuticle but by squeezing the water out of the hair. Then you're going to want to take your mousse and just lightly emulsify it into yoru hands and from the roots down to the ends, apply it through the hair. Use more as needed but do remember that you don't want to overdo it with the mousse as the hair can get a bit crunchy. Once the mousse is in the hair, you're going to want to take a comb, not too wide or not too tight of a tooth, just pretty average and you're just going to want to comb the mousse through the hair. Now we're going to begin drying the hair but just so you know, we're not going to use a brush when drying the hair section by section, we're going to cut down on time just by rough drying the section of hair and remember, if you're worried about smoothing the hair, that will come with the curling process. One tip I'd like you to remember when drying your hair, is that to smooth the hair it's always great to have the air going down the hair shaft, giving it a little bit more shine, closing the cuticle down the shaft. When achieving a tight curl like this, you're going to want to use a smaller barrel curling iron. This is three quarters of an inch and they do have smaller but do remember, anything larger than three quarters of an inch is going to be too loose of a curl. So, I'm starting at the root, holding the curling iron vertical and just wrapping the hair around the head leaving just the ends of the hair out the curling iron so they're not getting curled, giving it a little bit more of natural look. If all the curls all go in the same direction, the hair can often have a dated look. So you want to remember to occasionally throw a curl going the opposite direction to give the hair a little bit of a texture and more of a contemporary feel. We've completed curling the entire head of hair using our three quarter inch curling iron and this is our final look. You can see, the whole head has nice tight curls, just as we desired. To achieve a softer look, just easily run your fingers as if you're combing your hair with your hands to pull the curl out, giving it a softer look. And now I'm going to go in and just for a little bit more detail use a wide tooth comb to really get through those ends. And that's how you get tight curls using a curling iron. I'm Caile Noble. Thanks for watching.
