- Hi I'm beauty expert, Tracy O'Connor and today I'm going to show you how to thicken and strengthen your skin. So if your skin doesn't appear to be as healthy as it used to be, maybe it's not as thick, it's a little bit lifeless, dull, doesn't have that natural radiance that it used to have when you were younger. I recommend a three prong approach, a combination strategy to getting your skin healthier. First is always diet, second lifestyle and third topical, what you put on your skin will make all the difference in the world. Let's start by talking about product. I'm going to use the Rosa Arctica by Kiehl's. I'm just going to take just under a dime size amount. I'm going to warm that product in my fingertips and then apply. This product contains a really unique ingredient the Imperata Cylindrica which is derived from a desert plant. So it has really powerful protective qualities and it also is able to retain moisture throughout the day. So Ashlyn's skin is going to be hydrated in the day right after we apply the moisturizer and then by the end of the evening her skin will still be hydrated. Hydrated skin is stronger skin. Your skin is your first line of defense against intruders so when you have hydrated healthy skin your skin will have improved barrier function and in improved immune function. To improve the thickness of your skin and strengthen your skin's immunity you need to use products and ingredients that will stimulate collagen and elastin, Vitamin A proven to stimulate collagen and elastin and elastin is that support structure of our skin, that protein that keeps our skin resilient and from sagging or falling. Now collagen gives us this firmness. As we get older we tend to lose collagen and our body doesn't produce as much collagen as it did when we were younger so using topical products like Vitamin A, Vitamin C, anything that will contribute to the production of collagen will help to thicken your skin. You can also boost the health and welfare of your skin and improve collagen production by eating certain foods, eat your super foods, eat foods such as avocado which are proven to stimulate collagen. Another great food, cooked tomatoes. Cooked tomatoes like in your pasta sauce contain lycopene and lycopene prevents the enzymes from producing that destroy your collagen. And finally, lifestyle factors are important. Don't smoke, try to limit your drinking and exercise. Exercise is proven to thicken the skin and there you go. That is how to thicken and strengthen your skin. I'm Tracy O'Connor. Thanks for watching.
