Hi, I'm Jeremy Clark, Professional Hairstylist and Salon Owner. And today, we're going to talk about whether it's better to use hot or cold water when you shampoo your hair. Clients always ask me whether they should shampoo their hair with hot or cold water and a lot of times you're shampooing your hair everyday and you really need to pay attention to what shampoo you're using and also the temperature is really important. What people don't realize is that, hot water actually can make the hair more elastic and make it stretch a lot further than it's supposed to. So, if you're in the shower, ripping through your hair with your brush or your comb, you can actually break your hair a lot easier if you're using hot water. Now, using cold water can also help close the cuticle of your hair and make it more shiny after you style. I like to use the Garnier Fructis Daily Care Shampoo because it's mild, it's gentle and it won't strip your hair. One thing that's really interesting about hair is that you can actually change its structure depending on temperature. So, hot water can actually expand the hair, it actually opens up the cuticle and that can allow any of the interior structure of the hair, the proteins that are inside the hair can actually be stripped out during that time. And cold water or a cold temperature will actually close down the cuticle and what that does is it strengthens and protects your hair and it makes it look shiny and healthy. So, keeping that in mind, it's good to use a little bit of warm water if you want to cleanse the hair, get out the dirt and excess oil, maybe hair products, things like that. Warm water will help break that up. It's not necessary to use really hot water. Now, once you've done that, can still want to finish off with some cold water. It doesn't have to be freezing cold, just some cold water to rinse out and that'll help close the hair cuticle back down. So, there you go, there's some advice on how to cleanse the hair properly and whether or not to use hot or cold water when you shampoo. I'm Jeremy Clark, thanks for watching.
