- Hi, I'm celebrity hairstylist Darico Jackson. and today I'm going to show you how to slick back African American hair. So, first you're going to need a nice gel to slick it back. I'm going to use Pure Style by Mizani and a comb. So, when I'm slicking back hair, I like to comb is out first and just put it in the direction that I'm going to slick it in. You want to keep in mind the style that you already have in mind before you slick, because that's what you're going to end up with. So, I'm going to give Bianca a nice little part on the side, and go behind th ear. So, you can kind of see the shape that we're going in. And then I'm going to take a little product and don't be afraid to just rub it on. I'm taking the small end of my comb just to insure that I'm getting all the tangles out down to the scalp and getting the product worked through thoroughly. If the hair seems to be a little dry, go back in and reapply. When you're smoothing the hair you want to really really get down in here. I like to take the small end of the comb and I'm going to comb it really really close to the scalp, and I'm going to follow the comb with my hand to help with the smoothing process. Bianca's hair is very thick, so I've been applying it to the top. But I'm going to go back in and maybe section off just to get a little bit more product at the base, and layer the product in. I'm going in and distributing the product all through the hair, and then coming back and smoothing it with a comb. So, to make that hair really really really flat, you should definitely go in there and layer it as much as you need to. See how that's coming together? So, we've finished with the application of the Pure Style gel. And I topped it with a little hairspray and this should last you all day. And that's how you slick back African American hair. I'm Darico Jackson. Thanks for watching.
