- Hi I'm Caile Noble, celebrity hairstylist and today I'm going to show you how to do an updo with a side pony. First you're going to need a hairspray. Today we're going to use Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Anti-Humidity Hairspray. After that you're going to want to use a flat brush, a tail comb, and most importantly to hold that pony in place, a bungee. Now these bungees are the best little secret when achieving a pony that way you don't bunch up or loosen any of the hair down in the nape area. They've got little hooks on each end and you can pick these up at any beauty supply. So for a little prep we went ahead and blow dried our model's hair. At home it is best if your hair is a little shiny and polished, therefore, achieving a very smooth and sleek pony. What I like to do first and foremost is take the flat brush, brushing any hair in a backward direction away from the face. As you can see, when you have the hair brushed back, going in the nape of the neck, brush the hair up so the hair then falls right into place. Next we're going to go into the bungee, now here you have it, making sure you have a firm grip on that ponytail and that hair is nice and taunt into the hand. You're going to take the hook and place it closest to the scalp as you can, just underneath your hand. Now, using your finger you kind of press it up against and wrapping around you're grabbing the bungee, not the hook. These do have a tendency to snap off if you grab it by the hook so definitely be sure you don't do that at home. As you can see, our model has some loose hairs around the hairline and throughout the ponytail on the top. So what we're going to do is go in with our hairspray and actually heavily go in there, spray it down and pat those hairs into place. Once you've sprayed down the top of the hair and you've patted it into place, you can go in with your tail comb and smooth out the style as needed. Just like maybe, you know, a little red carpet secret I could share with you here today would be to finish off the pony by taking a section from underneath the pony and actually once again with that hairspray, spritzing the hair and then wrapping the hair around the pony. After you have that wrapped around, taking the bobby pin behind the bungee, simply pin it into place. Once again, using your hairspray, go around the base of the pony and smooth it out with your finger. And that's how to do a side ponytail updo. I'm Caile Noble. Thank you for watching.
