- Hello, I'm Spencer Barnes celebrity makeup artist. Today, I'm going to show you how to select the right makeup colors. When choosing makeup colors the easiest place to start is by picking one main feature to accentuate. We have the lips, the cheeks, or the eyes that we generally pick from. And with Ebony, I really love her lips. So today, I'm going to choose her lips and allow her eyes and cheeks to be complementary but take the back seat. Lets get started. I'm going to be using the ColorSensational lip color by Maybelline. What I love about this product is it has a very pen like tip that gives you expert precision. And when you use a stain or a color that's long wearing you want to have a lot of control and this one gives you that. Alright, so I'll start by just working the liner from the inside of the mouth towards the outer corners blending as I go and filling in the lip area. This particular color the shade I really like on Ebony's skin because it balances with her skin tone. She has a golden olive kind of warm rich coco skin tone and this lip color plays off of it creating a beautiful pop of color. For this type of product it's best to start with a dry clean lip. That way the product will go on beautifully and evenly. If you have a lip balm it will act as a barrier and you won't get as even or smooth of an application. There you go. This is a beautiful bright coral that looks great on Ebony's skin tone and it also complements her wardrobe. I'm just adding a little bit of lip gloss on the lip for some added shine and a little pop of color. And then we are going to go into the eyes and do a little bit of light eye shadowing and some cheek right on the apples of the cheek. I'm going to use a pale solid on kind of color. It's got a lot of gold and just a hint of green. And this will just brighten the eye with a little bit of color. Do the same thing here. I'm going to do this light on the inside corner of the eye. A little under the arch of the brow. And we'll go right into this lid color. It's got a little more color maybe a little more of this slightly mossy color of green. And blending into the crease. Do the same thing to the other eye. The important thing is getting the placement right and also getting the intensity soft so that it balances with the lip. That will be key. Then I'll get just a little more intensity right here on the outer part of the eye. Finally I'll add a little bit of this deeper tone right at the lash line to densify the lashes and make them a little more intense in depth. And as a finishing touch I'm going to warm her cheeks with a pop of color right on the apple. The easy way to find that is to smile and where the cheek balls up just do a soft swirling motion and back towards the hairline slightly upwards as you go. It's a beautiful soft apricoty pink that is in the tone of the lip. And I didn't want it to be too bright or too strong so I kept it just a little bit of a glow on the apple of the cheek. There you have it. I finished Ebony's makeup and as you can see it's a beautiful balance between her eyes, and lips, and cheeks. And her lip is remaining the focus. That is how to select the right makeup colors. I'm Spencer Barnes and thank you for joining me.
