- Hi. I'm celebrity hairstylist Darico Jackson, and today I'm going to show you how to put waves in short textured hair. So, when you're creating waves in textured hair, the first thing that you want to do is moisturize. You're going to moisturize the hair so that you can seal the cuticle. Because you're going to have to go in and curl the hair tight. So, after you put your moisturizer on there, then you want to blow dry and then you curl. So, as you can see, the curls are very very tight, if I stretch them all out. What I did was I used a curling iron that was half the length in her hair, so I probably stopped here and just wound it around because the tighter the curl is the deeper the wave. So, prior to setting the curls, I used a product and it was Iron Curl by Mizani. I used this product because it adds a lot of elasticity to the hair and makes it very very bouncy. But it gives the curl that spring without using hairspray. A helpful hint for you at home is to alternate your curls back and forth. And what I mean by that is if you start here, you're going to curl this one in forward direction and curl that one in a backward direction. That way you can get kind of like an ocean wave that goes back and forth. It might make it a little bit easier for you. However you don't have to necessarily do that. So, you can also create waves by just applying gel to wet hair, and combing the waves in and then drying them in that way. That's another way to create a great wave look on short hair. It's always good to use a cream moisturizer when you're doing styles like this because you want the hair to be as flexible as you possibly can. You're going to comb all of the curls out. When you're creating waves after it's been curled, it's just like finger waving. Because the curl is already in there, it's going to force it to want to wave anyway. Once you get the desired pattern in there, It might be a good idea to grab you a clip and just kind of clip that down and hold the shape in there. The more you play with it, the more you can establish the look that you need. And if you keep combing them in the opposite directions, so, you'll comb that that way and comb this way and then back that way, you're creating a nice wave. So, always clip the flat section. Or as you can see, it's sort of a c shape in there; you want to put the clip right in the middle of the c. So, again you're going to comb c shapes in there. So, put my finger there, comb a c that way. And you just keep doing that all over until the pattern is consistent, and you get it the way you would like it for your style. So, with the bangs, it's really important because this is focal area. This is the part that people are going to see first. You want it to be as modern, as fresh as you can, even though it has sort of a nostalgic take on it. See how pretty that is? So, you're just going to go back through and just consistently comb through and create wave patterns all over the head. And the more wave patterns you create in one head, the more interesting it is as opposed to them all going the same way. Get funky and create it if you can. It's a very very good look, you can take it from the office to out. It's even wonderful formal. So, I'm just about finished. You want to take and detail the front. When the wave runs out, you gotta do something with the edge of the hair. So, I just took and kind of pieced out these nice little kiss curls around the frame. She's so cute, I just couldn't help but doing it. She kind of looks like Betty Boop a little bit. And there you have it. And that's how you put waves in short textured hair. I'm Darico Jackson. Thanks for watching.
