- Hi, I'm Rodney Cutler, hair stylist and salon owner, and I'm going to show one of the hottest looks from the runway, the top knot. To achieve this look you're going to need four things, hair pins, pony tail holder, flat brush and hair spray. To help secure and add shine to the pony tail, I'm going to use Redken Quick Dry 18, just on the sides to add a little bit of shine and polish. So this hairstyle starts with a very simple pony tail. But a pony tail is so important you get it in the right place. What creates the drama with this look is the position on the head. So what we want to do is create the pony tail. It's very clean, very dramatic and it sits right over the ear, and that's what's going to give it that very high-fashion chic feel about this look. So once you finish your pony tail, what I like to do is split the pony tail into two sections and start twisting. What we're going to do is start to twist and start to knot these sections around each other. This is what's going to create the knot on top of the head. Now, with one hand you're going to use a hair pin and anchor that in. So you'll anchor that into the base, so you create a nice base, and you start to see your knot forming. Work around the head to the other side so it frees up your hand to keep twisting. So from there you've already got half of the knot done. Then what we're going to do is we're going to join both sections together, and keep twisting in knot. Now again, it's very very simple, and you'll see the knot start to take shape. With hair pins, the best way is to put it in, and then reverse the pin, and that's what anchors the hair to the base. Again it frees up your hands to keep twisting. So here's our finished look, and as you saw, it's really quite simple. A pony tail, split it, wrap it around itself to create a knot on top of the head. It's very very chic, it's ultra-modern and it's very very easy to do at home. So there you have it. That's how you do the fashionable top knot. I'm Rodney Cutler, thanks for watching.
