- Hi, I'm Jenny Balding, professional hairstylist. Today, I'm going to show you how to protect your hair in the Summer. So, you really need to protect your hair like you protect your skin. It's really important that you have a sunscreen, that you can protect your scalp as well when you're in the Summer sun. So we're going to use a product today that's really going to help that that protects against the UVA and the UVB rays which can be very damaging and harmful to your hair. So today the product we're going to use is Color Extend Solar Screen. So to apply the sunscreen product, you don't need anything else but your hands and the product. You don't need to brush it through because it's actually a very fine mist so that you can mist this on each section all the way down. You really want to focus on the ends though, because the hair is a lot older so it's going to be slightly more damaged so you really want to protect that more and focus the product right at the very end also. I'm going to work my way up to the root. Just take really large sections all the way through and again a little heavier on the ends. This is great for protecting your scalp as well so don't worry about it going into the root area because that will really help from any sunburn. So if you're going to be out in the sun all day you may want to reapply but I would really focus on the ends when you are reapplying because that's the driest part of the hair. You can mist a little bit here but really focus on the ends because like the skin it gets faded. Your color will fade, it will get drier, you know just like skin does also. So this is really good for blonds especially but it also works on every other kind of color of hair as well. It's just that blonds with their lowlights as well, you really don't want to bleach them out in the sun so this really protects. Also if you have red hair as well, you don't really want that to fade if it's been colored red. The drier your hair, the more air you're going to focus on that dry area. As you can see, our model has highlights and lowlights and so this sunscreen is really going to do a good job of protecting that color. So one great tip would be if you're very fair is to really focus right on that part area where you're likely to get the sun hitting right in the scalp. You can either just mist it on or if you want it a little more concentrated, you can just spray onto your finger and just work it through that part area. Again, it's very light so it's not going to make your hair oily but it's great just to get that protection in there because you really don't want sunburn on your scalp. So a last piece of advice I would suggest, if you're going to be in the pool or in the ocean, you really want to protect your hair from chlorine and the saltwater so you really must, especially if you're blond, you really must make sure your hair is wet first and then apply a protective conditioner ideally with a sunscreen in it and that will protect your hair from the chlorine or the saltwater. Then when you rinse it out you'll have your hair, lovely shiny afterwards. So this is how you protect your hair in the Summer. I'm Jenny Balding, and thank you for watching.
