- Hi I'm beauty expert, Tracy O'Connor and today I'm going to show you how to pick the right face cream. Dry skin is characterized by tightness, sometimes even red patches, maybe flakiness, general dullness. Oily skin often times, large pores, oily in the T zone, by midday you're shiny. Normal skin is healthy an balanced, not too oily, not too dry, tends to have a nice rosy glow. Combination can very often be a combination of all of those. You might have normal skin on your cheeks, oiliness on the T zone and dryness on your chin and your forehead. So I'm going to use the Ultra Facial Cream by Kiehl's. Now if Julia had oily skin or was prone to breakout, I would definitely choose an oil free moisturizer but because her skin is prone to dryness I love a cream like this that has a little bit of glycerin and additional emollients that will really help to attract moisture out of the air and draw that moisture into her skin cell. Now we're just going to take a little bit, just a little over a dime size amount because I'm also going to apply on Julia's neck and chest and when applying a moisturizer I like to use my orbital bone or the orbital bone as a guide. You can feel it right here. You don't want to apply the moisturizer too high or too close to the eye because that can irritate the skin. Now when working the product into the skin, I like to work in an upward and outward motion and I can just already feel this going right into Julia's skin. I love that. That's when you know you have a good moisturizer. We don't want a moisturizer that's going to leave any kind of topical residue. You know that can cause breakout, that can be comutagenic. So we look for something that has a nice absorbency factor. This is kind of a medium weight moisturizer. It's not lightweight but it's not heavy. I think a lot of people with Julia's skin type with a little bit of superficial dryness tend to gravitate towards a really heavy cream. That's not always the best choice. Sometimes heavy creams can contain mineral oil or ingredients that aren't good for the skin. So what you want to look for are products that have healthy ingredients and highly effective emollients like this one. Squalane is a key ingredient in this product and it's botanically derived, it's a healing lipid derived from the olive plant and it has a natural affinity to the skin in drawing moisture from the air and locking it into your skin for continuous hydration for 24 hours. One tip, when choosing a face cream, get a sample. I think it's fantastic to try the product on your skin for a couple days, make sure your skin isn't sensitive to the product, that it doesn't break you out. I think it's always great advice to try the product first and see if you like it and then make that investment. And there you go, that is how to pick the right face cream. I'm Tracy O'Connor. Thanks for watching.
