Hello, I'm Spencer Barnes, celebrity makeup artist. Today, I'm going to tell you about how to match your eye shadow with the clothes you're wearing. Sometimes, you can match your makeup with the clothes you're wearing, or an accessory piece, to give you a soft, connected look. But, you can also choose eye shadow colors that compliment what you're wearing, or even contrast it, to give a more complete look to the outfit. To create a look on Tracy today, I'm going to use Maybelline ExpertWear Eyeshadow in Lavender Smokes. I'm using this palate because it doesn't necessarily match exactly the color of her shirt, but it compliments the tones of her shirt, and will look beautiful with her eye color as well. Okay, I'm going to start by using this soft pale lavender right on her lid, and just sweep the color across. Notice how this color is a soft place to start. We're going to build a little bit in intensity, but I don't want to get too vibrant or too dark, simply because her shirt is, it's not super intense, but it's not super soft, it's not pastel. So, we'll get a nice, moderate bit of color on her lid. It's important to maintain balance. For instance, if she were wearing a very vibrant color, maybe a bold turquoise or, you know, a ruby red, or something like that, you might need more intense colors to balance that out and then compliment it. On the other hand, if she were wearing very soft pastels, a bold lip might look over the top, or a really heavy eye. So, it's important to keep that balance when you're choosing eye colors and makeup intensity. Now that I've got a wash of soft colors generally over the lid of her eye, as you see, I'm going to start building a little intensity at the lash line in the crease with the deeper tones. It's very simple. You'll notice that these beautiful lavender shades are really contrasting the shirt, and making her brown eyes pop. If you wanted a softer look - let's say, for instance, we chose peachy tones or soft bronzy brown tones, warm browns - you would get a more harmonious, subtle look. It would look a lot more natural and soft. Both are beautiful, and both effective, so it depends on what kind of an effect you want for the day. When choosing colors, make sure that you look at the overall effect and how they work together, so that the end result is harmonious whether you go natural or a little more colorful. Alright, so, you'll notice that I finished with her eye makeup. And, a final tip: When you're finishing the makeup, a good idea is if you're wearing kind of the fleshy, peachy tones or pink tones in the clothing, you might want to choose a lip or a cheek that compliments that, so that it keeps it real nice and tied together. I'm going to use this peachy blush on her cheek just to give her a nice glow of color that will tie the shirt and balance the eyes out. And, there you go. That is how to choose eye shadow colors that match your clothing. I'm Spencer Barnes, and thank you for watching.
