Hi I'm Carla Kay, celebrity manicurist. Today I'm going to give you advice on peeling nails. A lot of my clients have peeling nails and the main key to keeping them from peeling is protecting them. What you'll need to maintain your manicure is your ridge filler and your fingernail file. So today we're going to use a ridge filling base coat by Essie. Okay, so for peeling splitting nails we're just going to lightly go across the top and if there's a little extra to kind of even out we're going to very gently buff it, smooth it out. You don't want to do this too much because you don't want to break down the nail bed. So make sure you have a very very soft buffer and once we've buffed out all the nails, smoothed them out, that's when we're going to apply our ridge coat base filler. I would recommend buffing the nail just once a week during your regular maintenance manicure because if you overdo it you're going to thin out the nail plate and that's going to put you in a worse off condition with your peeling nails. Then we're just going to apply the ridge filler on top and if you're just going to treat your nails for peeling without applying polish I would recommend applying the ridge filler every other day for seven days and then take it off and then start the process all over again, apply a coat on all ten fingers and then every other day just reapply again. That will help seal the layers that are peeling and add an armor and protection to them to also keep growing. You could also apply the ridge filler and then every day apply a top coat to add shine and to seal the nails back down. Splitting weak brittle nails could actually be a vitamin deficiency. B12 is actually a great nail strengthener so if you add this into your diet you can see a change with your nails restoring and not breaking. Also just remember a few little things, if you're busy doing yard work wear gloves, protect your hands. If you're dry, you don't have cuticle oil at home, grab olive oil, apply that with lotion to always add the moisture to your hands. I find that when you have nail polish on it actually adds elasticity to the nail versus not having anything on them at all like if they're bare, they start to split you need to file them. It's just like a split end if you don't cut the hair off, the hair just keep splitting. And there you have it, manicuring advice for peeling nails. I'm Carla Kay. Thanks for watching.
