- Hi my name's Hilda Levierge and I'm a professional makeup artist. Today I'm going to teach you how to get smooth skin with makeup. When you're applying foundation it's really important that you get as smooth a finish as possible. You want to be able to fill in any fine lines and just camouflage any pores that you might have and you really want your foundation to be undetectable. Today on Marie I'm going to be using Maybelline Dream Smooth Mousse and the color is Classic Ivory. And I really love this because it's just almost like whipped mouse. Just like the name says. And it's really light but it's got great coverage and it's just going to go on the skin so smoothly. So the Dream Smooth Mousse actually comes with it's own sponge applicator. And it's got a nice shape there so you can really get into the little cracks and crevices of your face. First you want to test the color to make sure that it's going to be a good match for your skin. So the best way to test color is to just run a little bit of the foundation just along your jawline. And you want it to just melt into your skin so you can't really detect it's there. So that looks like a really good color for Marie. So what you want to do is also test it in the natural light. So just hold your face up to a window or, if you can, go outside and just have a little mirror with you and look. You shouldn't be able to really see the foundation, it should just blend right into your skin. You never want to change the color of your skin with foundation or ask anything up. It should really let your skin breathe but cover any imperfections that you might have. And just even out your skin tone. So you can also use your fingertips to apply this, but I'm using a sponge. You can also use a foundation brush. And I love this product because it really just sinks into the skin and almost acts as a second skin. It's very hydrating so it can be used if your skin is really dry. You might want to put a little bit of moisturizer on or a primer is also a really nice thing to use before applying a foundation. But you don't even really need much with this foundation because it's just so creamy. And already you can see it starting to refine her pores and just smooth out her skin and just give her a nice even skin tone. Foundation is great because it really works to protect your skin from the elements. It almost acts as a little barrier to pollution. If you have a foundation that has sunscreen in it then you have that sun protection as well. Foundation also helps the rest of your makeup last longer. It gives it a base for your blush and your eyeshadow to adhere to. It almost acts as a little primer for blush and eyeshadow. So this is just giving a really nice, even finish. And you want to just kind of blend the rest of the product. Any excess product just down into the neck so that you don't have any harsh lines. And you just want everything to look seamless. So another technique to ensure that your foundation is going to go on really smoothly and give you that smooth finish to your skin is to use a technique called stippling. And really all that is, is just pressing the product into the skin in this kind of a motion. So press and roll, just like that. And that's going to just really press the product into the skin and create a really nice smooth, even, texture. So there you have it. That's the easiest way to create a smooth finish when using foundation. Thanks for watching, I'm Hilda Levierge.
