Hi. I'm celebrity hairstylist Darico Jackson. And today I'm going to show you how to do two-strand hair twists on African-American hair. So, at home when you're doing two-strand twists you want to keep a few things in mind. First you have to decide on how big you want the twists. Because the two-strand twist creates somewhat of a curl shape. So, want to decide on if they're going to be big curls or if they're going to be little curls and it's up to you. it's a matter of preference. You also decide on what product you're going to use. You want something that's going to have a little bit of hold because when it dries, it's going to create the shape. Now, when you're doing two-strand twists you can do them on dry hair or on wet hair. It just depends on you and the texture of the hair and how easy it is to apply and how easy it is to work through that hair. Of course if it's very coarse, you want it as wet as you can possibly get it so that it can comb through easier. But if it's not so coarse, like Chelsea here, then you can just use it on dry hair. You can just do a two-strand twist on product with dry hair. I'm going to start by using the Curl Set by Mizani. So, you're going to need about a die size, not too much. You put it in your hand and you're going to rub them together, to stretch the product and warm it up a little bit. Because it's concentrated, you don't need a whole lot but you can stretch it out so that you don't over use it. Then you want to take and create the section or the size of section that you'd like. So, the reason that I chose the True Textures Jelly is because it has nice hold without crunch. When you're doing two-strand twists, a lot of the times we pick up gels and what happens is is the gels make it hard and crunchy and then when you do try to untwist your two-strand twists in your styling process, it starts to flake and you definitely don't want that. So, since her hair is dry I'm going to get a little bit more of the product. Remember that I said that you can do this on dry hair as well as on wet hair. And when you're doing a two-strand twist, it's just like a braid or braiding process. However, you're taking two pieces, hence two-strand twist, and twisting them together. It's real simple. But two-strand twisting them together what you're creating is sort of like a telephone cord type of curl or a zig zag curl. So, there, you see I've finished one already and it kind of looks like a telephone cord. It almost looks like a braid but it's two pieces, so when you unravel them it looks like a zig zag pattern. So, we're going to go in and do another one. Again you want to create the size of the curl that you, you want to section off the size of the curl that you're trying to create. It's real simple and fast. It doesn't take a lot of effort really. And because you've used a nice product it's going to kind of stabilize it and hold it in place. So, then you don't have to use a pin or a roller or anything like that to keep it. Two-strand twists work great on any curl type. Of course it works a little bit better when your hair is a tighter curl like maybe a type eight or maybe a type five through a type eight. And the reason is is because you're twisting it together and the tighter the curl the more likely it is to lock. But if the curl is a lot looser and you're doing a two-strand twist, you can either braid the ends or you could put a roller on the ends. That's always nice because then you can have a nice curl on the end of your two-strand twist. Or you can even pin curl or tuck the ends. Those are just some ideas that you can use when you're creating a two-strand twist set. Also when you're choosing product for your twist you want to have a product that is alcohol free, silicone free, mineral free. You want it to have a lot of moisture so that when you comb it out you don't get that crunch and you get more elasticity, you get more of a bounce. You want nice springy bouncy curls. So, I'm going to keep doing the two-strand twist until I'm done with the entire head. And after that a lot of the times you can either wear it in the twist style. There are different ways. You can also take it down. You can put them under the dryer to set the twist and then take it down and finger it out so that you get more of a curly fuller look. There are a lot of different options. As you can see, we've finished the two-strand twists. And if you can see they're all kind of the same size so that you can get some consistency in the curl pattern. Some people like to just keep it like this and wear them like this. I think it's cute. But today we're just going to take it out so that I can show you how to style it. So, you want to kind of untwist it a little. It gives you the edge so that you can freely bring them out and if you can see, they look like little telephone cords. I like to separate them in to four. That way you get more volume. You don't want to go in and put too much puff in it or frizz them out too much because it'll kind of make it frizzy, and you want to get a lot of that definition in there. And they're real simple to take out. You just kind of twist them the opposite way, take it apart. See that and you get that nice zig zag curl. For people like Chelsea it's good because her curl is really tight, so this offers her a looser option for her curl. Two-strand twists are great because it's funky. It's a great alternative to natural styling. It's progressive, you can take it from day to evening. I like to fluff it all out big and do it nice and wild. It's great for editorials. It's a great style that you can dress up. You can pin it up, on the red carpet. You're seeing it in magazines. Everybody's going natural. Everybody has, their rocking a fro. Even if you have straight hair you're on, you want a two-strand twist to give yourself a fro look, it's a great way to add some quick curl, fluff it out and instantly you have a natural look. So, you want to go through the whole entire head and just keep separating them in to four pieces. You know you start out with two but if you separate it in to four, it gives you a lot more volume and fullness. But again, that' s a preference. Some people like to separate them in two so that you have less volume. It just depends, but I like to go wild with it. Now, we finished the styling process. Doesn't it look fabulous? I think Chelsea is great for this. It's very sexy and hot. When she goes out tonight she going to look really cute. This hairstyle is really easy to maintain. A final tip that you can use is to go through and grab big sections, maybe about six and two-strand twist big ones. And then you can just go to sleep. It'll help you to maintain it a little longer. And that's how you do two-strand twists on African-American hair. I'm Darico Jackson. Thanks for watching.
