Hi, I'm Jenny Balding, professional hair stylist. Today I'm going to show you how to make a puffy pony tail. So what I'm going to do is just get some texture into the roots, bringing it back into a pony tail that works with her face shape, and then work texture into the tail. To get the look today, you just need a small brush, a hair tie and some hair powder. The hair powder I'm going to use today is Powder Grip 3 by Redken, and it's great for getting volume and texture into the hair. So I'm just going to tap a little bit of this powder just into the root area, and this immediately gives it some grip to the hair, which is so important, because usually when you do want to put your hair into pony tail, you're hair might be a little dirty already, so you really want to create some dry texture through the roots. I'm just working that through, and distributing that all through that hairline area especially. So I've worked the hair powder through the root area, especially focusing on the hairline where it's likely to get most greasy. Now I'm going to pull it right into a pony tail just using my hands, 'cause you really want to keep that textured, soft natural look to the pony tail. This kind of pony tail is very youthful and care-free, but you know what? You can absolutely even use it for an evening out. If you were wearing something very dressy, this is a good way to offset, kind of give it a very modern, very cool kind of now kind of feel to it. So now we've worked this great texture through the roots of the hair. We've brought it back into the pony tail now. Working on our face shape, as you can see, this really enhances her cheekbones. So it's very important to have a look in the mirror first to see if you need more volume, do you need it a little lower? Do you want to enhance cheekbones? Whatever's going to suit your face shape. So I'm just going to work on showing you how to create some texture and movement into the tail, 'cause that really finishes off and marries the two textures together. So I'm going to take a little of the hair powder, a little will go a long ways, so you just want to tap a very small amount in. Just working at the base of the pony tail through to the ends. This hair powder is fantastic 'cause it's actually a modifying hair powder, which is really good if you have fine or medium textured hair, because when your hair gets greasy, it gets oily, which gets shiny, which means you're not going to get this rough grip to the hair. So this really adds some extra texture, and takes all the oil out of the hair. As you can see, as I'm just working my way through, that's already giving it so much more texture to the tail. Now what we're going to do is just lightly back-brush through the tail. This is just going to create some volume, especially just to kind of give it some width through that area. Just very lightly from the roots down to the mid-length. So now I've established the volume into the tail now. The last and final piece is just taking a tiny little piece of hair, just from right underneath, and just bring it around, and you can wrap that around to disguise the band. And all you need is one tiny little hair pin. I'm using a very small hair pin, just to anchor underneath. Just pull it and right underneath there. And there you go. That's how you do a puffy pony tail. I'm Jenny Balding and thank you for watching.
