- Hi my name is Hilda Levierge, and I'm a professional makeup artist. Today we're going to be talking about what a lipstain is, and how to use one. So lipstains are great because they provide the lips with sort of a dye of color. And you can wear them for you know, most of the day without having to touch up and they really resist wear from eating or drinking and you just think of it as a temporary dye for your lips. So for Liz, I'm going to be using the Maybelline color sensational lipstain in Feeling Rosy. Which is a really pretty, soft pink. She already has a nice pink tone to her lips, so this is going to be about one, one and a half shades darker than her natural lip color. Now if you have more of an olive complexion, darker skin tone, Maybelline makes colors that are more of a brownish, mocha tinge. So first what I'm going to do is as you can see there's like a little tip to this, a lot of lipstains you can either apply with a brush or put on your hand and kind of tack them on to your lips. You really need to work quickly because they set very quickly. But this is really convenient because we can actually take the tip and trace the outline of the lip. So that's going to work as a liner as well, like a built in lip liner so that's going to add a little bit more definition to Liz's lips. Now lipstains don't contain any wax, whereas lipsticks do. So a stain isn't going to travel outside of your lips, so you don't need to worry about it feathering or staining your teeth. And like I said working quickly because the stain dries really fast. Also stains can sometimes can be a little bit drying to the lips, so you always want to prep your lips with a good lip balm that's going to just give you a smoother application and help the stain to just go on evenly. And lip stains are great because they just fade off instead of fully rub off, so before you need to reapply it's never going to completely come off. You can just reapply it when it starts to fade a little bit. So you'll get a lot of wear out of that. So there you have it. That is what a lipstain is and how we apply one. Thanks for watching, I'm Hilda Levierge.
