- Hi I'm Tara Shakespeare, celebrity makeup artist. Today I'm going to show you which eye shadow brushes are best for smoky eyes. So a smoky eye can be achieved with a number of different colors. You can either keep it light and playful and use the skin tones. We can go really bold and dramatic and use like a charcoal gray or even like a midnight blue. Now my favorite brushes to use when doing a smoky eye are these three brushes. I like this middle one. A flat eye shadow brush. I like this to apply the eye shadow first, and then I like to use a clean fluffier brush just to blend in.I would take the flat brush and apply it all over the lid here. Like this. And then I would take a cleaner one and then I would just blend out the sockets. When you're doing a smoky eye, it's really important just to use a small amount of product at a time, and so using a clean brush really blends out any excess product and just keeps it quite nice and neat. Because again, with a smoky eye, it's really easy to get carried away and just to give yourself too much product. And then lastly I like to use this angled eyeliner brush. And I get some of the product and I just take it really close to the eye line. With either a nighttime or a daytime smoky look, you want to aim for like an eye line, a mid tone, and then a highlight. We can achieve this with as I said, lighter day time colors or stronger, smokier looks. So to achieve this day time smoky eyed look, I'm going to use L'Oreal Paris Studio Secrets, the One Sweep Eye Shadow in Playful for all eyes. So I'm going to start by taking my angled eyeliner brush. We can take some of the dark product just along the bottom. I'm just going to take this really close to Zyra's eyelashes. Starting just on the inner corner and then going outwards. Notice how I'm pressing the shadow into her eyelashes rather than dragging it. This helps stop any product faling out on to your cheeks and really giving you trouble cleaning up. And by using a brush, it creates a nice soft edge too because this is a daytime look, you don't really want it to be too over dramatic. So next I'm going to take my flat eye shadow brush, and I'm going to use some of the mid tone that we have here and take this all over her eyelid. For me, the smoky eye is really just a technique that can be applied with all number of colored eye shadows. So whenever anybody else asks me for a smoky eye, I just fill in the eyelid here and blend out. And I'm actually mixing these two lighter shades. Just to give a nice pop on her eyelid. And then I'm going to take my clean brush and just blend out that line. And I'm just going to go one more time just because I want a little stronger look from this. I'm merely starting in the center of the eyelid and just working out. The beauty of this eye shadow is because it's quite light. You really, again, don't have to be so exact. If you were doing this with like a stronger blue or a gray, you'd really have to be a bit more careful. Again just pressing down my brush on to her eye. Again it's just to minimize any fall out. And it really sets the product in there. Because before I applied the eye shadow, I put a nice coat of foundation and then just powder to just to really set her eye shadow. And I really like to just highlight underneath the eyes just on this inner corner just really opens the eye up. Especially with a lighter color like this. It makes it, really pops it. You can see how her left eye is much more open than her right. So as you can see, Zyra looks lovely in a really nice natural day time smoky eye. So with the one sweep eye shadow, it also comes with these brushes. It gives the same effect, but just with one brush. So if you don't have any brushes out with you, this is a great alternative. And so there you have it. That's what brushes to use for a smoky eye. I'm Tara Shakespeare, thanks for watching.
