Hi my name is Taylor Babian. I'm a celebrity makeup artist and today I'm going to show you some dark eye shadow ideas. So most people think that you can't wear dark eye shadows during the day, that it's only meant for a smoky eye, but you can actually wear the dark eye shadows just along the top lid so that it's appropriate for day or night. So to show you a great dark eye shadow look we're going to use Studio Secrets by L'Oreal Paris. So one of the great things to do during the daytime is actually to layer eye shadows as opposed to doing that dark crease on the outer corner and we're just going to basically go lighter and darker closer to the lash line and for Megan I'm going to choose a medium color or a medium tone eye shadow at the base. So when you're laying eye shadows it's basically like doing eye shadows in terms of a rainbow and it's not about just wearing just the initial really dark color. What you want to do is you want to basically add to a medium shadow. That way it actually kind of like creates a smoldering look as opposed to just like a really dark line across the lid which never looks natural. It just doesn't look soft. So I'm tapping it on, that's going to help you have the shadows last a lot longer and then we're going to use our darker color which is kind of like a nice eggplant, close and we're going to put it closer to the lash line. So as you can see we're starting to like build the color on top of each other and you can see how it creates this like faint smoke where it fades from our lovely mauve to our eggplant. So it should go in that gradient of the medium color at the base and then our darkest eggplant at the lash line. So when you're doing anything along the lash line, you definitely want to choose a smaller brush that will allow you to add more pigment to the base and also just fit there. You know, when you're doing a larger surface area you want to brush that has a larger surface area and when you want a little bit more detail, you can use a little small detailed brush like this, especially when you're getting close to the lash line. So now I'm just going to add a little bit of a lovely highlight underneath just to finish the eye. If you were going to do a smoky look, you would actually use a darker color but since we're doing something that's going to be a little bit more appropriate for daytime, just adding a nice little light sparkle and to finish we're going to use a little black eyeliner right in between the lash line. When you add a little bit of black liner in between the lashes, it just gives a look of fuller lashes. Look at how nice that is. It also lifts the eye especially if you've had a really exhausting evening and you want to look a little bit more awake it actually does make your eye look a little larger. So one of the fun things that you can do, this is a great daytime look but you can also mirror the eye shadow and do it along the lower lashes and that will give you a smoky eye. One last tip when you are working with dark eye shadow to make your life a lot easier, do your eye shadow first or do your entire eye first and then follow up with your foundation after. And there you go, dark eye shadow ideas. My name is Taylor Babian. Thanks for watching.
