- Hi, I'm Caile Noble, celebrity hairstylist and today I'm going to show you how to do a dancer's bun. You're going to need a few tools to achieve this look including flat brush, hair tie, comb and hairspray. Today, I'm going to be using the Garnier Fructis Full Control Anti-humidity Hairspray. A few things to remember when achieving this look is that a dancer's bun is more at the top of the crown versus in the back or the low nape of the neck. In order to get started you're going to want to be using the flat brush. Start combing the hair all back. Once you have the hair all combed back, you're going to want to them go in with your hairspray, just to kind of try and tame down and set a little bit of the hair. So go in, just like so. Once you've sprayed it a little bit, go back in with your brush, just making sure that the hair is tame and combed into place. Now I'm going to spin her around so you can see. You're going to want to go and start combing the hair up into the top of the crown. A dancer's bun traditionally is worn very tight and secure so you want to make sure that when you're combing it all up into place that you have good tension on the hair. Once you have the hair up in your hands, give it a good pulling just to make sure it's all nice and secure. Once you have the hair in place, go in with your hair tie, there's other ways to do this but at home I wanted you to see what it would be like to just use a simple hair tie. Once you have the hair in place, a good little tip is to split the pony in half and give it a tug, making the hair more secure. Then go in with your hairspray, smoothing the hair down and into place. Now I've sprayed down the hair and patted down all the flyaways. Now you're going to move into the pony part. Spray the pony down and smooth it out with your hands, then twist the pony to the end and then simply twist into place and simultaneously twisting the ponytail as you put it into place. And then pushing the bun down onto the base of the hair. Now you have the bun and you just want to anchor it down with your pins. As I'm anchoring it down I want you to notice how sleek and tight the look appears. This is the key to the dancer's bun. You want to make sure that you anchor it down so that it also won't move. Another styling tip to take into consideration is if you want to enhance the bun and create more fullness or exaggerate the bun in any way, you could always take pieces of hair and wrap it around the base of the bun creating more of a pony and that way when you wrap it into place you'll have an over sized, bit more dramatic bun. However, do keep in mind that this may be tough to do on your own. And that's how you create a dancer's bun. I'm Caile Noble. Thank you for watching.
