- Hi I'm Louis Santelices, celebrity hairstylist, and today I'm going to show you how to wear a cute ponytail with wavy hair. Sometimes when we hear the word ponytail we kind of don't think like it can be a fun thing but it can and to get our look today we're going to need some rubber bands, some combs and some styling product and the product that I'll be using today is L'Oreal Paris Studio Line Clean Gel. So we want to start off by just combing through the hair with a brush. Now that I combed out the hair I'm going to start back combing all the hair on the crown and on the back of the crown as well so go ahead and just take a section on top, lift the hair directly up and over direct it forward so that way we can really achieve maximum volume. Place the comb in the hair and go down so that way when you comb it out it's not a messy. Back combing should never be up and down, up and down it should just be very deliberate, in, down, in, down, just taking all this, lifting it up, combing all that down, very gentle and let it lay forward and if you want I suggest that you can take a spray and lightly spray it. Now that we've back combed the rest of the hair we're just going to bring everything down, just over directing it back. As you can see there's a lot of hair here. So now what you want to do is just kind of gently glide everything back until you get something that's a little bit more smoother and polished and you can do this with a brush or a comb. It's almost like you're frosting a cake and it's just very gentle because you just want to see how that's forming so that way you're not coming out all the back comb. And the bangs are just going to lay there really softly and just do a normal nice and clean ponytail. So I just place the rubber band right here at the very bottom of the neck and then you can always take your tail comb and just kind of bring it out and kind of form it, shape it. And as you can see that just gives her like a really nice fun shape. Now what you can do at this point is take your styling gel and you can control some of the frizz around the hairline and the overall shape. So it's a little bit cleaner. Now that we've taken our product and we've smoothed out all this around the hairline and around the head, we've controlled all that frizz, what I want to do now is have a contrast in textures for where this is nice and smooth and polished, I want to create a different texture in the ponytail. So take your rat tail comb, you want to divide the hair into three sections because we're going to do a braid, just take sections of your hair and just back comb it, it doesn't have to be perfect. Okay now that we've teased the ponytail, I think this is a great look. You can just walk out like this. I love the contrast, you know, all this texture and then this smoothness, I love it, it's so cute and I think its' very current and very like runway. Another option that we have is that we'll take this and we'll divide it into three and just do a simple braid and you just take it and you just braid it just like you would do your hair. And you don't want to do it too tight, just kind of loose. Instead of using a rubber band for the end, we're just going to tease it and spray it with hairspray. So we're going to take a little bit of hairspray on the end, take a little bit of a back come and just tease it and it will stay like that. And this is a really cute funky edgy way to wear a ponytail and the messier the better I think. And there you have it, that's how to wear a cute ponytail with wavy hair.
