- Hi, I'm celebrity hairstylist, Darico Jackson, and today I'm going to show you how to curl an African-American Afro. All you need are two things, your hands and a nice moisturizing defining product. Today, I'll be using True Texture's Moisture Stretch by Mizani. The reason I chose Moisture Stretch is because Moisture Stretch allows you the opportunity to change shape if you will. I'm just going to take a liberal amount, enough to cover her whole head, probably like a quarter size and I'm going to take and rub it all over my hands and the reason that I rub it all over my hands is because it will allow you to go through and just drag your hands through it, and then you're getting products from both sides of your hands, the backs and the fronts to make sure that it's covered. The great thing about this product is that it stretches the curl out and defines it. So what you want to do is now that you have the product all on your hand and worked through, just kind of take each curl and stretch them out and add some definition by twirling them. Of course, an Afro is already curly, so if you just use a product to loosen up the curl you'll get more definition. Look at how that texture is starting to come in. You might want to pull on it a little too because that will stretch out the curl even more. A lot of times, we don't like our Afros because they're so tight but if you use a great moisturizing product it will stretch it out really good and then you just take and pull a few tendrils out around the face and the best thing about Afro hair is that you can change the shape just by pulling and patting. You can go asymmetrical if you'd like and as you're working it through, you'll have a little excess on the back of your hands and you just want to rub it off and just rub it in. Doesn't she look great? Look at how gorgeous those curls are. And that's how you curl an African-American Afro. I'm Darico Jackson. Thanks for watching.
