- Hi, I'm Jeremy Clark, professional hairstylist and salon owner. And I'm going to show you how to create defined curls. To get this look, you'll need a comb and a small barrel curling iron, maybe an one inch to a three-quarter inch, and a defining gel. I'm going to use the Garnier Fructis Curl Sculpting Cream Gel. I'm going to start by sectioning Kristen's hair from front to back, starting at the crown, to behind the ear. You can see that Kristen does have some natural body to her hair, some natural texture and curl. And what I'm going to do, is just really polish that and make the curls defined, and separate it out. So, it'll be more of a, more of an evening look, more of a formal look. I'm going to start with the section at the bottom. When you're curling your hair at home, it's much easier if you start the sectioning at the bottom and pull the rest of the hair out of your way, it gives you room to work. So, I'm taking about one inch to two inch sections of hair, it doesn't have to be exactly precise. I'm going to take a little bit of product in my hands, and just run it over the length of the hair and then, curl it. You can see how that hair is really separated out and defined. I'm just going to let it cool in that position, before I break it up at the end. So, we'll do some breaking up of the hair, just to finish the hairstyle. But for now, it's fine to let it set like that. I'm going to take a little bit more product and I'm just using, just enough, that I can sort of, feel that it's on my hands, without being able to see it. You want t get, let some of the water evaporate. And then, take about a one inch section, and just running it through the hair, it doesn't have to be soaked or saturated with it, just kind of lightly coat it. You're going to see a lot of steam coming off the hair, and that's normal. This is about the size of section that you want to take, it's about two inches, one and a half to two inches wide. I'm going to take the iron, and starting at the base of the iron, lightly wrapping the hair around, almost like a barber pole. Not wrapping the hair too tightly, creating more of a spiral. And I'm gong to continue this all the way up through to the top and the sides. O.k., so, you can see, we've got all the cork screw kind of spirally curls put in. And I let the hair cool and now, I'm going to go through and just break them up into smaller pieces. And I'm just kind of finding individual curls and running my finger through, just to break them up a bit. I want to keep a lot of the separation and texture that's already there. So, I'm just breaking these up with my fingers, instead of breaking through with a brush or a comb. I see a lot of the younger celebrities wearing this on the red carpet, and when they go to parties. It's a great way to dress up your hair, but still wear it down. You can see what the hair looks like, after I broke up a little with my fingers. And just without raking through it, just lightly piecing all those curls apart, you get tons of texture and body. And it really lifts up, off the head, it looks really full. What I really love about this hairstyle, is each curl is individually textured, you can see all the definition and it creates a lot of fullness. The curls build upon themselves to create more fullness, and the hair really moves, and is soft at the same time. There you go, that's how to create defined curls. I'm Jeremy Clark, thanks for watching.
