- Hello, I'm Spencer Barnes, celebrity makeup artist. Today, I'm going to show you what color eye shadow to use with red lips. One thing to consider when you're doing eye shadow for red lips is to balance the face. Obviously, if you have a red lip, you don't want to get too strong with the eye as well, or it can be a very strong look. So, the biggest trick is balancing the eyes with the lip. Typically, a light eye with a red lip is beautiful for the day. For night, maybe you turn it up a little bit more. So, it does depend on the occasion.I'm going to use the ExpertWear eye shadow by Maybelline. Got three possible colors we could use. This is like a smoky charcoal, silvers. Here's another that's more in the smoky plums amethyst, and a pale white. And then, a possible third option, we have a neutral bronze brown, soft peach, and more of a relaxed kind of soft lavender color. All of these could work, but I think, for today, we're going to use this smoky richer purple, and the soft white. To start this look, I'm going to use this pale light color right under the arch of the brow. Just a little bit here to give a little highlight. Do the same thing over here. And, I'm going to use the same color right on the inside third of the lid, maybe across the main center part. Using short tapping motions, I'm blending this pale, kind of shimmery ice color right on the lid from the inner corner, right up and outward through the middle of the eye, right on the ball of the lid. Then, we're going to go into the crease with a deeper shadow. This one's matte. And, I'll just come right on this outer part of the eye, right into the crease, blending as I go to give a little more depth. For this third step, I'm going to use this deep, kind of richer purple shadow that has a little more shimmer to it, right at the lash line, so that it builds the intensity, and catches the light right there at the lash line. I don't want it too high. I want to keep it by the lashes, so that it has a nice pop when she blinks. I'm going to use this small smudger brush to give me greater control and precision right in the lash line. Go ahead and look up at the ceiling. And, you'll notice Eden's eye line. I'm just going to give her a little bit of this color right in the lashes on the bottom. I don't want it to be a thick line, or too smoky of a line. Just enough to give a beautiful pop of color right at the lashes. And, I'm going to use the same brush for this final step, in this charcoal colored shadow, using it right on the outside upper lid of the eye. And, there you have it. Eden's eye shadows complement her red lips beautifully, and you'll notice her brown eyes are a nice balance, bringing it all together. And, that's what color eye shadow to wear with red lips. I'm Spencer Barnes, and thank you for joining me today.
