- Hi my name is Hilda Levierge, and I'm a professional makeup artist. Today I'm going to show you some classic lipstick colors. There are three main classic lipstick colors to choose from. You've got your classic red, a classic nude, or a classic plum. Now when choosing a classic color you really want to keep in mind your skin's undertones. So if you're going to go for red, you want to go for if you have a warm undertone, more of a bright, orangey red. If you have a cool undertone, you can go for more of a pink or a purple toned lipstick. If you're going to go for a classic nude, again if you have a cool tone to your skin, you're going to want to go for something with more of a pink nude to it, or if you have warm tone to your skin, you're going to use something that has more of a yellow or a beige tone. And then with the classic plum color, same rule. Cool tones go for pinks and purples, and for a warm toned skin, you're going to go for something that has a little bit more of a brownish undertone to it. And easiest way to decide what tone you are is to either check the inside of your arm and look at your veins. If you have really blueish purple veins, you're going to be a cool tone, and if you have more of a greenish tinge to your veins, you're actually a warm tone. Also in an even simpler way to check is what do you look better in. Gold jewelry if you're warm toned or silver jewelry if you're cool toned. So on Ali today, I'm going to be using Maybelline Color Sensational Lipcolor in Red Revival. Now this is a true red, and a true red means that it has both warm tones and cool tones, so anybody can wear it. It looks great on everybody and it's really beautiful and it's definitely a really classic timeless color. So before I apply the red lipstick, what I like to do is first prep the lips with a little bit of lip balm, which I've already done with Ali, and then use a lip pencil in the same color. This is just a red that's the exact same color as the lipstick. So you're going to start at the top of the lip in the Cupid's bow and just run the pencil just along the lip line. This is going to really help prevent the color from traveling outside of the lips, also known as feathering. And just come down and I'm actually going to fill in the entire lip with this pencil. I like to do that when wearing darker color because it helps to keep the colors star on longer and also you don't have to worry if you're eating or drinking and your lipstick fades off, you won't be left with a harsh line. You'll still have some colors on her lips. You can either apply your lip stick straight out of the tube, but on Ali I'm going to use a lip brush for a little bit more precision. I love classic colors because like I said, they can be word any age any skin tone, with anything. From a smoky eye to a classic cateye, if you're going more natural, you might want to go for a nude color. So just apply just in the middle of the lip and then just start to feather out towards the edges of your lip. Now I'm going to do the top lip so starting at the middle and just applying to the outer corner of the lips. So there you go. Those are some classic lipstick colors. Thanks for watching, I'm Hilda Levierge.
