- Hi, I'm Jeremy Clark, professional hairstylist and salon owner. And today, I'm going to show you how to bring back shine to hair. If you'd like to add shine to your style, at home. One of the things I like to do, is just a quick blow-dry style, using a round brush and a shine spray. So, to get started, I'm going to use the Garnier Fructis Brilliantine Shine Gloss and Spray. And I really want to focus on Kristen's ends of her hair. Which is where you start to see the hair gets a little bit of, gets a little bit dull and you start to maybe, have some split ends. This is a great way to camouflage those. So, I'm just running a bit of the shine spray through the ends of the hair, distributing with your fingers. And I don't want to worry too much about the roots. The reason, the hair at the ends starts to look not as shiny, is it actually becomes a bit dehydrated, it loses some of the proteins that reflect the light. And the cuticle of the hair itself actually opens up and starts to look a bit frayed. So, what we're going to do is, we're going to help close down that cuticle with a little bit of spray and some heat. I'm grabbing as much hair as I can at the top, front, I'm going to brush all that hair forward. I'm pulling the hair straight up from the head, we're going to brush it forward, just a little bit, over-direct the hair. And then, I'm just focusing on the ends, not worried about the roots. And I'm just going to do a light brushing action with the blow-dryer. And you want to blow-dry with the growth of the hair, with the direction of the hair. You never want to take your blow-dryer and be blow-drying against the hair. Because that's going to actually fray your cuticle more. It's also really important to use a blow-dryer that has a nozzle to concentrate the air in one direction. That keeps the air from spraying out in all directions, it really helps close down that cuticle. And another good trick is, once you have the hair rolled and smoothed a little bit with your brush. And just lightly hold that with, not a lot of tension, just enough tension to hold it in place. I'm just going to heat up that curl, while it's around the brush. So, you want to let the hair cool in that position, I call this, letting the hair do all the work for you. Just keeping that curl as best as you can, without combing through it too much. I'm going to wrap that right into a pin curl, and pin it in place. So, what's happening here is, the hair has been heated up, and the heat actually helps smooth the cuticle down. The hair will respond to heat and you can use heat to shape the hair. And then, once it's in the shape that we want, we're going to let it cool down. And when it cools down in that shape, that locks in the shine. I'm going to do a few more pin curls, I'm sorry, I'm going to do a few more pin curls. One here, at the back of the crown, maybe two more, pulled up to the top and then, pulled up on the sides as well, to the top. So, you can see, what it looks like now, with our set. I've placed about six large pin curls throughout the head, pulling everything to the top. And they were blow-dried with just a little bit of shine spray, about midway down the length of the hair, to the ends. And you just let that cool for a second and then, we're ready to drop it. And I'm just going to lightly brush through the ends and that will be it, the look will be polished on it's, polished on it's own. So, I'm using a, I'm using a vented brush with lots of space between the teeth, just to lightly brush out the ends. And it's important to remember, when you're doing the blow-dry itself, to use a natural bristle brush, a boar bristle brush with a wooden handle. You don't want to use a plastic, you don't want plastic teeth or a metal cylinder. The wooden handle is going to give you the most shine, and it's going to be the safest for the hair. Because of the way that we set the hair, it really just kind of falls into place. You don't have to do much styling or brushing, just enough to get the little tangles out. You can see, it looks really satiny and soft, has a nice shine to it. This is the look once it's finished and polished out. You can see that we have tons of shine, the hair is really reflecting the light, and looks a lot softer. And we got tis look, just a quick blow-dry and some shine spray. And that's how to bring back shine to the hair, I'm Jeremy Clark, thanks for watching.
