- Hi, I'm Louis Santelices, Celebrity Hairstylist and today, I'm going to be showing you how to get big wavy curls for long hair. So today, I want to talk to you about hair texture. Ana here has very, kind of fine hair even though it's long. In order to set those big curls, you want to prep the hair and kind of get ready so the curls will really hold. And today to get that look, I'm going to be using L'Oreal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray Extra Strong Hold. And the tools that you'll, you're going to need to get this look is a curling iron, some clips, a comb and some clippies. And to start this look, I'm going to start in the back of the head. You want to comb the hair through and we want to divide the hair into sections so that way we can make sure that everything is curled. So, I'm going to start from behind the ear and just sectioning all this hair away. And we're going to begin our curling below the nape; so, from here to here, we're going to start in this section and then, clip the rest of this hair away. Now, one thing that I really like to emphasize is, when you're curling hair, I like to alternate the curls because if you don't do that, then the curls tend to clamp together. And if we alternate the direction in which the curls are going, you'll get volume and you'll get more separation. So, I'm just going to section this piece here and we're going to generously spray this area here. And Ana's hair is very fine and very soft, so it's really important that we sh, you, that you have a good holding hairspray. And so right now, this section I'm doing away from her face. You want to leave the iron on there for about five seconds, depending on, on the density of your hair. The density also is important; so, if you have really thick hair, you want to take smaller sections. And so this section, I'm going to go opposite direction going this way. Okay? Spraying this section, just for a few moments and then, we're going to pull those out later. Now, we're on our top section of the crown. Your head, if your hair tends to be somewhat flat, we can always curl it and then pin it so the hair kind of sets. On this section here, I'm going to put everything back and the bangs, I'm going to curl back as well 'cause we want a really side-swept effect. So now that we've curled back, I'm just going to wrap that around my fingers to get some more volume. We're just going to clip it so it sets. Now, I'm just going to work all this top piece all, all back. Everything around the face we want to curl back; but everything else, we want to alternate back and forth. Generous, making sure that we spray it; another thing that you can do if you're having a hard time with the curling iron and you don't know how to do that, you can just take the section and wrap it around the curl just like that. Hold it for a few moments, let it go. What I'm going to do is I'm just going to finish off the rest of the hair. Okay, now that you, that we have everything curled, we don't want her looking like she's going to a Quinceanera, that we want that big Victoria's Secret inspired hair. We're going to have to comb this out with a wide-tooth comb. But, it's very important that we let the hair set so that we have that hold. Comb everything out; you can do this with a wide-tooth comb or with your hand 'cause we want this to look very current, modern and sexy. And you need that you comb that through, I'm going to have her flip her head over and then, I'm going to shake this out and you can even use a blow-dryer just like a tousled loose look. So now, we brought our hair up, we're just kind of raking it through and you can see it's very loose, we have that volume. Now that we've loosen up all the curls, we can just back-comb a little bit more to achieve more volume and that looseness. Okay, there you have it; that's how we achieve big wavy curls with long hair. I'm Louis Santelices and thank you for watching.
