- Hi I'm Spencer Barnes, celebrity makeup artist. Today I'm going to show you how to apply pencil eyeliner. Using a pencil eyeliner is a great way to define the eyes and add depth to the lash line. So I'm going to show you some techniques with pencil eyeliner using the Maybelline Line Express Eyeliner. You'll notice the pencil has a pencil tip and then a smudger tip. This is a great tool to help you soften and blend the eyeliner. I'll show you that in just a moment but to start we're going to use the pencil side and we'll come to our eye and you'll notice she already has a little foundation and a little concealer. I'm just going to sweep the color right across the lid starting from the inner corner of the eye and staying right into the lash line, moving towards the outer edge of the eye. You can leave it a hard line, that is one way. There are many different techniques that you can do using a pencil eyeliner but today I'm going to show you how to make it a little softer and smudge it, less of a defined hard line. So once you've got your liner you can take the sponge tip on the other end and gently smudge it. By doing this you get a more soft hazy effect on the eye which gives more dimension and a little more depth and it's a little less hard as well. You can also use your fingers to soften it even further if you want. The result is you get a beautifully defined upper eyelid with a soft smudged edge. Alright, so I've just finished her other eye and you may have noticed just like before I brought the pencil liner right into the lash line, smudging it right into the lashes and then using this smudge tip to blend it and soften it even further. The end result is that her lashes are defined but soft and hazy right at the top so that there's not a hardness. It's a very fresh and flirty way to give a nice definition to the upper lashes. And that is how you apply pencil eyeliner. I'm Spencer Barnes and thank you for watching.
