- Hi I'm Ashlie Johnson, celebrity manicurist, and today I'm going to show you how to apply a French manicure. So a French manicure is a combination of a natural flesh tone base with a white tip. So today I'll be using Essie's Moonstruck. To start our French manicure we want to begin with a good base coat. I'm going to use the Essie Ridge Filling base coat to make the nails nice and smooth and of course, we're going to apply it to all ten nails starting at the base working our way to the free edge in a nice smooth even motion making sure that the coverage is nice and even. Also if you want to do a little swipe at the end of the nail to seal it all in that's really helpful too. You could also use a strengthener for this step if you feel like your nails are a little more on the weak side, it's up to you and that's step number one. So for step number two we're going to use a natural tone of polish. For Jenny's skin tone I chose this shade. It's nice, light, natural, has a little bit of a pigment but not too much and we're just going to apply one coat of this making sure it's a nice thin even layer. So you don't get any streakiness or bubbles. So for our next and most important step the white smile line on the free edge where we're going to use our Essie Moonstruck. The easiest way to do it is just start from the corner of the nail and do a smooth sweeping motion towards the center. and to finish off our French manicure we're just going to use top coat and seal it off. So the top coat just helps give it a really high shine smooth look and you just apply it like you would all the other coats and just seal the end there with a little extra polish so it doesn't chip as quickly and there you go, that's how to apply a French manicure. I'm Ashlie Johnson. Thanks for watching.
